Black ink not printing

Inserted a new black ink cartridge, now I'm not getting any black ink printing.

When I print something all the colors print that don't require black. I have tried to cleaning the black only (4 times) but did not help at all. I also replaced the black ink just to be sure it was not the cartridge. Still nothing!

I did check to be sure the cartridge was pushed down good! I even took a flash light to look to be sure that there was not something obstructing the fit! I am very disapointed in this printer! Looks like I will be getting a new one and I just bought all new ink! Money $$$$ down the drain! No more brother for me!

I have a brother mfc 5440cn, black ink is not printing....have replaced ink and made sure that it was installed properly....what is up...still not printing...I have to use other colors to simply print.

I have replaced the ink cartridge twice, cleaned the print head upwords of 20 times. Status Monito shows all ink cartridges full. Test print only prints the color cartridges -- no black. Nothing that needs to print in black will print. Will scan but not copy.

Seems like a lot of people with the same problem. anyone with a solution?

The printer was working fine and then I had a paper jam and now the black will not print. I have replaced the black cartridge with a $25 Brother black cartridge, cleaned the black 10 times or more and when I run the quality print everything but black prints and not a speck of black hits the paper! The Brother help line had me go out an buy a new cartridge - of course, that was money thrown down the drain. Cleaned the black another 5 times and still not a drop of black hits the paper. All they could say when I called back is that I would have to take it in for service - the printer cost less than $90 2-3 years ago - the service place won't even look at for less than $75 after I take it to them - must be time for a new printer... I worked so well for several years - then it a flash it quit!

I've added new ink and now it won't print at all. It tells me there are no cartridges. Or that they are empty. They are not. I've removed and replaced several times to make sure there was contact at the bottom. I've rebooted, tried to clean. It just won't do a thing.

Ours makes all the right sounds to make us think it's printing, but a blank page is all we get. The cartridges are all brand new, fit in nice and tight, and we're at our wits' end. HELP?

Fix ink cartridge
I had same problem. I must have ran the clean cycle more than 30-50 times over a period of days. That never made any difference. I was about to toss the whole thing but figured I would try one more thing. If it didn't work I would be in no worse shape. Here is what I did.
Took an almost empty black cartridge and inject a lot of 100% Acetone to dilute ink. Left some black in it since I didn't want to think it was empty. Inserted this cartridge and ran the cleaning a few time. IT WORKED. I used my word processor program and filled a page with large bold font characters and printed a page or two. Each page cleared more nozzles. After doing this cleaning/printing a number of time, I put in the full good cartridge. Ran the cleaning a few time to eject any of the Acetone diluted ink. Ran the printed page a few time to remove more of the diluted ink.
Everything seems to work now.

Dampy's solution worked for me like magic! i didn't use the printer for a few months and now i had this weird problem of it just not printing black (i changed the cartridge for a brand new one - all the same), while working and making noises as if it did print but producing absolutely blank paper. so i took acetone and sticks for cleaning ears with cotton on ends and cleaned everything i could reach on the outside. than i took the old almost empty cartridge and added a couple of mililiters of acetone that my mom uses to remove lack from nails. just take an empty syringe without a needle **** into it a couple of mililiters of acetone push it hard against the hole where the ink goes out from the cartrifge and inject the acetone. then insert this cartridge into the printer and print a couple of pages with large fonts and bold text. it will print but with bad quality. afterwards change the cartridge for a good one and print a couple of pages of normal text, it should improve from page to page. it took me tree pages to get to normal quality of print. THANK YOU DAMPY!!!! saved me a lot of money.

If there is no black cartridge installed and the printer is printing "black", it's not true black. The printer combines the colors to make black. I didn't think that it would print at all with a cartridge missing. Learn something everyday!

No ink output from Epson Stylus Color 777

I don't have an answer for you but I have the exact same problem.

I have an Epson Stylus Color 777 and I put in new cartridges (black and color) that I bought yesterday (03/05/10).

I pulled the tape off the cartridges and inserted them in their carriages. Everything works like usual except that no ink at all prints on the page. Comes out completely blank.

Continually says align print cartridges

My guess is that the color cartridge is either defective or not inserted correctly. I have a 6110 and know that inserting a print cartridge is a little tricky. If it isn't completely inserted and the top latch fastened correctly, the cartridge either won't work or produce errors.

Try reseating the color cartridge so it's inserted in exactly the same way as the black cartridge and run a print job again.

Open the following web page and go to Step three to see the instructions for cleaning the electronic contacts on the cartridge and print carriage.

Ink Cartridge Alignment Fails

Those seem the most likely causes and solutions to me. Good luck.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.

Printing without color?

Im sorry to inform but yes, Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head. Therefore, once one of the cartridges are expended, the printer signals you to replace the cartridge in order for printing to continue.

Can we print with other three Color ink cartridges when Black Ink cartridge is emptied?

as u have ran out of ink you cant print anymore... you have to replace a new ink cartridge.... this is because when u print something, the colors will get mixed to print the exact color.... even if u are printing only in black, some other colors wil get mixed to produce the black color on the paper... so u need to change the ink cartridge.... u cannot run with a blank filled ink cartridge.... and the selection of your printer is very good...

thanks and regards
