PS3 disk reading issue

The following thread from the Play Station site discusses the issue and offers suggestions. If only one issue were involved, it might be possible to say why. You likely will have to try several fixes.

The only thing to do is get it checked. If you got yours a while after it came out you have a bad lazer. (thing that reads discs) you have 2 get it fixed. Play n trade is who i reccomend. google them. PS: my gamertag is NEROROTT I have all call of duties + a few others like borderlands

you disk drive is not reading that you have inserted a disk... you may need to replace it

sounds like a dead Laser they are a dual laser will read DVDs n CDs but wont read Blueray movies or PS3 games Laser might need replacing

It sounds like your laser is going bad. This is a common issue for the PS3. The tell-tale sign is it starts reading less and less and having more errors.

The optical lens in your blu ray drive is going out. It needs more to play games then to watch movies and cd's. This is a very common problem with the ps3. If you want to replace it yourself, you can find many replacements for your len on eBay and you can always google a decent tutorial for step by step instructions on how to replace it. this could be several issues.
1:) try putting in A DVD Or CD.
2:) Check that the game your trying to read, is free from Dirt/Dust/Scratches.
If the console reads a CD/DVD ( movie et,c ) theres a chance that the Blu-Ray laser unit has failed ( Burnt-Out Or Other )
Check if the Console guide suggests the use of a laser Head Cleaning Disk ( Or Other ) ** Possible debris on laser read head**
If it reads normal CD/DVDs. Then I,d suspect the blu-ray laser is at fault. This will need to be replaced/repaired or calibrated.

First try putting the movie you watched when this happened, back into the PS3, see if you are able to watch this movie and if it reads this particular disk... if it will, contact the company and tell them that your PS3 isn't reading any of the disks, they will send you a box and repair your PS3 free of charge and send it back to you in about 3 weeks.

a ps3 is supplied with a one year warranty as standard with sony. speak to them direct.
