RCA Colortrak plus. Model# F32672SB Serial # 807560570 Chassis # CTC187CJ3 Manufacture Date Feb 1998 Service # F32672SBFM3 4/21/08- TV worked fine last night. This morning worked for about an hour. Then it turned itself off. I thought the kids did it, and left it alone. Half an hour later, I heard the TV turn on with no one in the room, and then turn off. I wnet over to it, and turned it on w/the remote. 20 seconds later, it turned itself off. The longest it will stay on is 3 minutes. I unpluged it for 5 minutes, and pluged it back in. Turned it on, and it turned itself back off. I chhecked where the power cord goes into the tv, and giggled it and applied a little pressure to it. Did not help. No lights in front of tv are on. Now it just turns itself back on and off by itself. Just wondering is it dead, I really dont want to sink in alot of money to fix. Might as well just get a new tv.... Any help is appreciated.

It's probably a cracked solder joint in the power supply / horizonal drive stages. As the unit heats up the joint is seperating and breaking connection. It could also be a component failing when it gets hot. Usually the voltage regulator or Horizonal Output Transistor (both mount to heat sinks).

If you know how to solder and want to tinker, unplug the set for a couple days (to let the power capacitors discharge) and resolder and crystalized it cracked joints on the board(s) where the power stages, and flyback transformer are located.

If you decide to operate the set with the back off, please be careful. The high voltage on a TV can be 30,000+ volts.

Hope that helps,

Geno

Your set might have a leaky capacitor that takes a while to fully charge to the supply voltage as well as loose conections to the vertical Ic,sometimes you can identify it because it overheated and the insulation is peeling, sometimes they look normal but they are bad.If you are familiar with tv service you will have a place to check but if you are not too familiar seek the assistance of a servicer.
