Hello! Dan Busa here with DISH Network customer service. This is actually how your DVR is supposed to function. A 622 is a dual tuner reciever meaning it's capable of watching or recording two live shows at a time. When you record a show you tie up one tuner, there are two work arounds. You can get an additional dvr receiver or you can set up record preferences and have everything automatically record to tv2.

Dish remote 2 changes channels on both tvs and dish remote 1 changes channels on both tvs

Is the receiver in dual mode? Go to the receiver, open the door, and hit the mode key. If both TVs are still showing the same thing, then the issue is not the mode.

Go to TV 2 (the one without the receiver) and make sure the TV is tuned to channel 60 or 73. If it is still showing the same thing, go to TV1 (the one with the receiver) and hit Menu, system setup, Installation, modulation (menu 6-1-5). make sure the modulation for tv2 matches which channel you put your tv2 on.

Still showing the same thing? check the back of the receiver, the RCA cables (red/white/yellow) are plugged into the TV1 ports not the TV2 ports.

Showing different things but the remote still changes channels on both tvs? Go to TV1, hit menu twice, near the bottom there are two boxes each with a number. This is the address for each remote (tv1 and tv2). On the TV2 remote hold sat until it stays lit, choose a number different than on the screen, touch pound (#), the sat light blinks three times, hit record, the number on the screen should change to match the one you typed in.

Dish changing channel to new recording while watching *pre-recorded* program

rjvdw,

Try unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds then plugging it back in, and see if the problem is resolved. The receiver should only switch if you are watching live TV instead of a recording.

If the problem persists, and you are for sure not on Live TV, the receiver may need to be replaced. If it continues you can send me an email at [email protected], and I can assist you further!

This is a problem that many have. If you are recording on TV1, and the receiver is in dual mode, then you are only able to watch what you record. But you can set your recording to TV1, and then put the receiver into single mode, and switch from the recording to live TV.

We have Dish Network VIP722 on only one tv at this time. When recordng PPV, we are unable to change channels without getting message that recording will stop. Menu>Preferences>Record...

We would be happy to help you with that. The first thing we would recommend checking is if the "Record Plus" feature is "Enabled", this can be found to the left of the "Record Preferences" on the "Record Plus" screen. The other thing we would recommend is to ensure that the tuner that you are viewing is for the TV1. You can swap between the tuners by pressing "Input" button while in SAT mode.

This should get things set up the way you want it. Thanks for choosing DISH Network!

I cannot access any of my recordings, there is just a black screen instead of a preview of what has been taped on the right of the recording list, and when I click the ok button to watch, nothing happens. ...

Does your recordings show when you press the DVR button on the remote? You stated that you are able to watch TV and change channels but not able to access your recordings. What is the model number of your receiver? Is it a DISH Network receiver? If it is DISH Network, try unplugging the receiver from the electrical outlet for 10 seconds and plug back in. This will cause the receiver to reboot and re-acquire the satellite signal. Please let me know if you still have problems.

Just got VIP722K DVR. How can I watch live tv while recording another show????

Hello, Daniel Busa with Dish Network customer service the easiest way is to set the recordings up on tv2. You can do this when you set up the recording, or you can set your record preferences to tvs. To do this hit menu 8-5 then select enable and either set the default to tv1 or tv2 whichever is best for you.

I have one receiver and two tvs. Regardless of which tv I'm watching or either remote I'm using, the tvs get the same channels. I would like to watch different channels on each tv. Any solution?

tjhuston41,

It sounds like the receiver may be in single mode which means both TV's will show the same picture. Pressing the mode button on the right side of the receiver will switch it to dual mode allowing both TV's to be used separately.

If the receiver doesn't have a mode button, then the issue could be the TV's are mirroring each other. Confirming the cable connections will tell you if that is the case.

Watch while recording

Make sure the DVD has RF lead and Scart lead connected in and also BOTH connected out to the TV. When you record from TV use channel numbers, when you record from cable use AV channel, (on DVD). When watching TV use TV channels 1 to 5, when watching Cable use AV channel, (on TV).

Changing Channels

Unfortunately, no. The tuner in your DVD recorder works differently than how your satellite receiver works. You *must* use the satellite receiver to select the active channel, and then send that channel to one of the inputs on your recorder. You can then record that channel. Unless your satellite receiver is has "dual tuners" in it, you are stuck watching the same channel that the DVD recorder is recording. If your goal is primarily time-shifting of shows (as opposed to archiving shows forever to DVD), you might consider getting a different satellite receiver with a built-in DVR (hard disk recorder). These allow you to mark shows in advance, have them recorded to the hard drive, and then you can watch them whenever you want, skipping all the commercials. You also get the ability to pause and rewind live TV.
