SOURCE: Broken flat ribbon cable on SD 28 flash

Hello, after breaking mine this morning I was able to fix the flash so It can fire from the hotshoe.

Any automatic TTL features will still not work however atleast you will be able too fire in auto, and manual modes.

I simply opened the flash by taking off the hotshoe, and then swiveling the flash head 90 degrees to expose the four screws there. You need only remove the two screws from the front side of the unit.

Open the battery door and gently pull away the front case (Be careful there are several delicate ribbon cables that you do not want to snap. From here you can either unscrew all the ribon cables to free yourself room to solder or try and dodge them.

You should now be able to see the rear side of the PC sync socket. There is a blue wire that joins the outer edge of the socket - this is ground. Solder onto this point and join onto the top left circle of the PCB board of the hotshoe. (Opposite corner from where the ribbon cable attatches) There are copper circles exposed on the pcb for easy soldering.

Next, return to the rear of the PC sync socket and note the orange wire coming from the centre pin. Solder a wire to this point, and then down to the hotshoe PCB and to the circle that joins to the centre pin of the hotshoe. (Trace the circuit paths)

Sorry I did this about 30mins ago and I'm remembering this out of my head.

Goodluck

SOURCE: broken part

This part, the 'hot shoe assembly' is much stronger than it looks and holds all the weight of the flash mounted to the camera in those 2 little slots.
Yes, you'll need to replace it.
Are you comfortable with electronics and small components. There are small springs and pins/ball bearings/contacts in there when the cover is removed and wires may have to be soldered in place (I can't remember if there is a plug for those wires inside).
Try here to buy the part you need or contact Sony service (I'm assuming you're in the USA):

Repair a broken hot shoe mount on the speedlight

Have to try tighten down the four screws holding the shoe?

Would you like me to fix it for you?

If it is just the Hotshoe Assy, then you can buy from me.
They come in two versions:

Nissin Di866
Nissin Di866 Mark II

Are you from USA?

Canon eos 1000d flash not working

To the left and the right of the hot shoe (where your speed light slides) are two rails. On the end are two springs. `one is connected to a switch indicating there is an external speed light connected.
If on is kept in place the spring will keep telling I have an external speed light. Check what spring is not back in the correct position.
Look from the backside to the front.

After I have detached my external flash (Nissin Digital Speedlite Di622), my Canon EOS 60D does not recognize the fact that the external flash is already detached. Thus, this does not allow the built-in flash to pop out when needed.

I have tried turning the power off and on again. The problem persists.

How to setup the canon 50 d to nissin di566 digital flash?

First check trigger voltage. This flash was not made for your camera. Just set camera to M, not Tv, Av.P. Set Shutter to 250 or less Set F Stop until you see correct exposure.
Get the Nissin Di866. I've sold and have some modification on this model. It's more powerful than the Canon 580EX II.
The cheaper model is Nissin Di622, which I also sells/services/supports.
