Freezer is hot on the sides is this normal?

I just plugged the freezer into the wall. It has been in storage for a few months. I feel the sides and it is hot to the touch. It is in the laundry room and it is hot in there. The freezer is getting cold. My question is the freezer working properly.

Good day,
Yes, that is normal. It is ideal to not be in a hot room but as it reaches temperature and begins to cycle off and on it will become somewhat cooler.

My frezer is getting hot on the sides-why?

Its normal. The manufacturers got smart and put the condenser in the outside freezer walls. A lot of home refrigerators also have the same hot walls. Hope this helps good luck.

Danby upright freezer plugged in a few hours ago, but coils on back are hot

If you are talking about the black condenser coli on the back of the fridge it is hot because the refrigerant is pulling all of the heat out of the fridge and trying to deposit it outside of the box. This is called hot box pull down. When the temperature inside the fridge comes down and you have product in it the coil on the back will become much cooler during operation. So if you are wondering it is nothing to be worried about, perfectly normal.

My Kenmore 9 upright freezer feels warm on the outside, what could be the cause. I have defrosted and cleaned it already and seems to work fine. however i am concerned with the outside temperature. Please...

Hi,

This is normal. The condenser coils on freezers are typically located in the walls.

The refrigerator in your kitchen has condenser coils that are hot either under the frig or on the back. Freezers do not need as much heat transfer on the coils with the air so they put them in the walls, it is called a warm wall condenser. It may even feel hot to the touch if you happen to feel it near the end of a cooling cycle. It will be the warmest close to the compressor and cool off at it makes it around the cabinet down to the other side.

New fridge freezer isgetting very hot on both

This heat is normal. The refrigerator you have in your kitchen will have the condenser coils which get very hot on the bottom or back of the frig. A deep freeze has the condenser coils inside the walls of the freezer. Hot temps are normal when it is running.

Try to leave an inch or so of space around it for air flow and that will help.

HI I HAVE AN OLD 13 CU. FT KENMORE UPRIGHT FREEZER. AFTER I DEFROSTED IT YESTERDAY AND AFTER IT HAD BEEN PLUGGED IN FOR ABOUT 6 HRS I NOTICED THAT THE SIDES OF THE FREEZER FELT VERY HOT . IS THIS NORMAL ?...

It had to run longer than normal to cool down the freezer again. The heat from the compressor running is what you feel.

I would not worry about it unless it is still hot after 24 hours. Then there is another problem.

Freezer

The condenser or high side is built into the side walls on these modern freezers and refrigerators in many cases. It is normal for the outside walls to be hot when the unit is working. Frost on the inside of the sealed packets of food is from the moisture content of the food. Running the temperature setting to cold will accelerate the moisture freezing to the inside of the food packets. This also is a normal condition.

Exterior side walls VERY hot

Hi wjjlaw,
ngafm at your service,

Is the hot side th open side or against the wall or cabinet side?

Have you touched this side before in he two years you have this appliance? Or is it that you just noticed it?

And if you can keep your hand on that spot for a long time it is not so hot only warm? If it is not burning your had it is probably just the characteristic of that fridge!
Check if the freezer part is full to the top and packed full.
Freezers can not be so full that you cover the cold air vents usually found in th rear of the freezer.

My advice is only a trained tech can remedy this problem, this time!
If I were there I'm sure I could nail it down!

You need hands on service!
Bless You ,
ngafm,
Please give me a good rating before you sign off.
Thank you.

My freezer is hot!

It is normal for the freezer or fridge walls to be hot sometimes, some important points are to make sure that there is enough ventillation around the fridge/freezer, especcially the back, so that air can circulate around it freely. Also maybe just check that there hasn't been anything fallen down the back blocking the vent, and that there isn't a dust collection or anything. Otherwise as far as I know this is normal.

Freezer is freezing but the outer wall are extremly hot

This is a normal condition.  The condensor coils are in the cabinet and their job is to remove heat which is why it is hot.  You will want to make sure the freezer isn't in a tight spot where air from the room can't flow across it.  Without good air flow it will become too hot and not cool properly and lead to the compressor failing too soon.
