I have a Compaq Presarion CQ60-114E and initially I thought I had a completely black screen after I had left my laptop whilst making a coffee. Tried all the usual stuff not such luck. Tried HP they were no help at all this has gone on for 8months now. Today I picked up some info from the HP forum this fix did not work, but I have found that due to the way the light was on the screen there is a display albeit very faint could it be that the backlight on the screen has failed? Or is there something else amiss?
You simply need to replace the screen, and or backlight, it is a relatively easy job, as long as you get a service manual. I usually get my screens from eBay, or similar.

if your laptop is on and your not getting any thing on screen then just follow the 2 steps
1st remove RAM from the Laptop
2nd remove CIMOS better from the mother board for 15 mints
refix both devices again then try for i hope you screen will start working
