Thread wrapping around take up lever

Help! I have a Brother XL-3500, and the top thread keeps wrapping itself several times around the takeup lever, resulting (I assume this is the cause, at least) in bunching and tangling of the thread on the underside of the fabric. The machine is threaded correctly - what should I do?

I think that you should check the manual again because it sounds like you have missed a step in your threading. What you are describing does not seem possible if it threaded right

Have a Brother SE 400, Thread keeps wrapping around spool pin and breaking when using embroidery, how do I stop it.

your machine should have come with several spool caps in various sizes find the one that is just a little larger diameter than the thread spool and place it on the spindle against the spool that should hold the thread far enough away from spindle to keep it from wrapping around it.

Showing E6

You receive the error message E6 when the motor locked up because thread is tangled or the machine is seizing up.

Remove the tangled thread, it it still happens that means your machine is seizing and requires service.

I've a Brother XL 3500 sewing machine and when I

try these suggestions
Try these suggestions
1. Change the needle--use a needle that's for the fabric being sewed
2. Rethread the machine--top --make sure to use every thread guide
3. try a different bobbin--make sure bobbin is inserted correctly into the bobbin case, & make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case
4. make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
5. Clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint or threads

Brother XL3500 thread keeps wrapping around my thread take up lever?

Revisit your threading up, check the threading up path in your manual. The thread is missing a thread loop/guide I would say for the thread to keep coming loose and getting caught around the take up lever. Is it fully into tension? Always raise the pressure foot when threading up the top of the machine to ensure the tension is wide open so the thread seats properly.

I can only get a small amount of thread wound on the bobbin. It stops and wont take any more. The bobbin case keeps moving & I cant get it back in correct place

I assume you are placing the bobbin at the TOP of the machine, then wrapping the end of the thread several times around the bobbin in a counter-clockwise motion?
Have you made sure to "scoot" the empty bobbin next to the bobbin bar to the right? Is the thread going from your spool, directly TO the bobbin? Because it is supposed to wrap around the tension "nut" (where you start to thread your machine) before going to the bobbin.

How to thread a Frister and Rossman 35

Presser foot up, takeup lever at the top, thread on the top spool pin, take the thread to the left and over the top guide, straight down the right hand side of the tension and go round it making sure the thread goes between the discs, up the left hand side to the takeup lever, thread the takeup lever right to left, take the thread all the way down to the needle going through any guides on the way, thread the needle left to right, make sure the flat side of the needle is facing right.

Top thread won't pull up the bottom thread

make sure needle is in with flat facing back and pushed all the way up in needle holder. thread needle from front to back, and ensure a bobbin with thread is correctly inserted in machine with approx 2-3 inches of thread hanging off it.

wind machine over (top of handwheel toward you) gently holding the needle thread (do not hold taught or hook may not catch loop underneath needle plate) and the bottom thread should come wrapped around the needle thread after you have turned 1 revolution and stopped with takeup lever at top.

if you have done all of this and the bobbin thread will not come up, try sewing on scrap fabric and see if the stitches are correctly formed. if so all is good, if not, it sounds like your hook timing is out and will require a tech to repar.

goodluck,

scott.

The thread keeps jumping out of the thread takeup lever on my Pfaff. What is causing this? I've replaced the needle and the bobbin shuttle.

if you have the machine threaded correctly, try threading the takeup lever from the opposite side so the thread crosses over itself and see if that helps.

You should hold the end of the thread coming through the needle until the thread has grasped the bobbin thread.
