Sounds like the drivers for the network card are not present...

Grab a flash drive and the model number of your PC. Go to another internet connected computer and download the ethernet (and wireless if that's what you need) drivers frome here to the flash drive. Go back to your PC and install from the flash drive.

remember your model is 7320gz notebook but it your notebook is Gateway® 7000 Series

Gateway 7320GZ restore problem

are you able to do a system restore back before the upgrade which I am almost sure you did right, take the computer back in time to the upgrade you were able to do with it, like if you had xp upgrade to vista, you don't need the 16 digit number, if this is windows that is, if this is a gateway computer this of course wont work.

Overhaeting

open the case, clean the fans and remove all dust from the comp. Also if u have oil the fans (special electonics oil)

System Recovery Problem

Phillynoy was right on! I have been fighting with the recovery and restoration hanging. When I read Phillynoy's comment about the optimal speed setting, I called Gateway. The tech said she would be glad to tell me how to change those settings for $59 tech fee (first 30 minutes). So I decided to look in the bios and there it was under Advanced. Change to disable the optimal speed and the computer has finally completed the installation! Praise God!
