The screen for my panasonic lumix dmc fs15 appears to be broken. I've only had it for six months! The display is now White with a small dark patch to one side, and diagonal lines across the screen. I was out hiking , and it was in my pocket. I don't recall it getting bashed but I guess that's what mustve happened! Is it worthwhile getting it fixed? Should I just buy a new one? How long would it take if I sent it away to get fixed?

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:
My camera started bringing up
"system error (zoom)" and it was completely inoperable. I would turn it off, but the lens wouldn't retract unless I applied slight pressure to it. I was able to FIX this problem by applying some lubricant
oil to a Q-tip and swiping it around the telescoping parts of the lens,
being very careful to stay away from the actual lens. I turned the
camera on and off a few times so the oil could work its way into the
parts, and it fixed the problem. I don't know if it will be a long term
solution, but I can at least download my pictures to my computer now!
With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. This will erase all the pictures. You should use a memory card from now on and never go back to the internal memory.
