636 is a lot of pages and depends on the toner coverage you may need to replace the toner.. 80 - 75% (is that used is remaining ??) any way check your waste toner basket first (see you manual for instructions) chances are its filled and needs cleaning or replacing (see your manual for instructions) If its fine then change your toner .. If you have the demo toner (toner shipped with machine) these contain less toner than a new cartridge and will finish faster ...
If the toner you have is the original TN330, the page yield is about 1500 pages so I guess maybe there is something wrong with your printer. Try to power off the printer and reinstall the toner cartridge and drum. If it still not works, you can check if there is something wrong with the toner. To get every bit of toner powder out of the cartridge, first remove the toner unit from the drum assembly. Second, find the little circular window on the right-side of the toner cartridge. Third, place a piece of black electrical tape over the clear window, cannot be clear tape. Fourth, re-install the toner cartridge into the drum assembly. Last, put the complete unit back into your printer. If this still not work, get a new brother 2140 toner then.
No, you don't have to replace the toner. I have the same printer as you do and the same problem at 600+ pages. Go youtube and search hl 2140 toner fix and you can continue using your toner. The original toner can print more than 2000 pages.
You should change the toner because you prints lot of pages around 600 .

Hello ,
This problem is a common issue and easily fixed.
When putting in a new toner cartridge, the printer usually automatically resets the toner count.
In a situation like this, the printer did not automatically do the reset and so we must manually reset the printer.
To manually reset the printer, first, remove the toner from the printer and separate it from the drum unit.
With the toner cartridge in hand and the brother writing facing you, look to the left side of the cartridge. You should see an arc shaped opening with a white tab in it.
The tab is set at the right position and must be pushed back to the left side of the opening.
To push the tab back, you must turn the grey gear attached to the front roller upwards as you push the tab.
Once the tab has been placed to the left position, the printer will accept it as a new toner cartridge.
Thanks,
Pat
