The possibilitty is the 8 hour timer may be defective. This timerr is the one which cut off the compressor and powers the heater to defrost the coooling coils to condense the water to the try below. If this wont happen then the possibility of the cooling coils building up frost will decrease cooling. The thermostat can also be a culprit as the thermostat is also in circuit . You can see if the timer works in this cycle by shutting off the fridge for several hours and restarting to check the defrosting cycle.the timer is placed near to the compressor unit and the heater near the cooling coils. Hope you check this out. Good day .

Variance in freezer compartment temperature

How to check everything
http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php
If the evaporator coils behind the back panel of the freezer are icing up because of auto defrost failure that will stop the circulation of cold air and eventually affect the freezer too.

check defrost heater, defrost thermostat. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control board.

Defroster cycle stuck

Unfortunately GE has been having a problem with the main mother boards on your model refer, the mother board controls the defrost cycle and there is not reset for it, you may have a bad board.

Gss25jfmc side by side

it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer/control board
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

FRESH FOOD COMPARTMENT TOO WARM

it could be a defrost heater problem . the heating cycle is not defrosting the ice that is why your having frost build up. the heater could be damaged, thermosdisc damaged, electronic timer module damaged.try thawing it up by unpluging it for a day or two until there is no more water dripping at the back then try it again, im sure the refrigerator section would cool again for a week or two before it wouyld go back to the same problem. dont forget to bring back the setting to 5 for freezer and 35 for refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work.

GE GSS201EMD CC

A common problem with these refrigerators is a faulty defrost heater. When the defrost heater fails ice will accumulate on the condenser coils located inside the freezer compartment of the refrigerator. Typical symptoms are frost appearing on the back wall of the freezer compartment, little or no ice being made by the ice maker, and above normal temperatures in the freezer compartment. The defrost heater should be replaced by a qualified repair person. The part itself is not particularly expensive.
