Hi. I have a Lumix DMCFZ5. When I turn the camera on the zoom extends and the shutter button operates but nothing else works. I cannot therefore access the menu. The battery is fully charged. Can you help please? Many thanks, Alan

This is normal. If you hold the zoom for an extended time the lens is slower than the indicated zoom. Forcing the lens to continue to its zoomed direction.
Hi dear, you can try to order the parts from Panasonic and do it yourself. I strongly recommend you bring your camera to an authorized repair center to get it fix by them.Because it looks simple to open the camera but it's not.
hello, these units have a very fine zoom switch and can get damaged by a drop or fine sand. the zoom switch sits under the actual button. if you turn the camera on in camera mode and the display is showing the zoom on screen display then you know it is the switch.
See the post for the same camera: "Buttons stopped working": there is a small 2 position switch connected to the zoom button. In my camera the zoom switch was stuck in one of the extreme positions. You have to put it back in the middle an re-assemble.
I believe the FZ7 determines that the lense cap is still on when it can't extend the zoom lense because the lense cap is in the way. I would check to see if your zoom lense housing is somehow stuck (could be sand or dirt in it) which is creating enough resistance to make the camera think the lense cap is impeding the zoom lense from extending.
It sound like a problem with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended)
Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem.
In any case it could not make it worse.
Good luck!
This is Digital Zoom I take it. best to ignore it then and do all image editing in an image editor.
Do get onto Panasonic Tech Support that may have an answer for you.
hi,
i've an fx8. i had a problem 2 weeks ago. my objective didn't want to close when i switched the camera off. it remained open. when i switched the camera on again, the objetcive has closed and opened again, and the _Turn Off the Camera and Turn On again_ message appeared on the sisplay. and remained in open position after switching it off.
i tried some button combination, like menu button on, and power the camera on. it didn't work, but the second was the shotting button on, power on combination. an it worked, my camera did some kind of reset. it returned to the original position, and everithing is working since then.
