i think the issue has something to do with configuring microphones to work with webcam. i am not getting audio through any other player programs i have downloaded. i am however able to use programs like skype with no problems.

By default, the video recording process will capture the sound from the mic (integrated mic), but before you start recording, check the sound settings and set the recording device to Mic. So, before you start video recording, go to sound settings, and select "Microphone" or "Mic" on the recording menu, you have to deselect all the other recording devices like, line-in, mono-mixture, stereo mixture etc.. Set the volume of the Mic and try recording again. It should work now. If you think and if you are not getting sound, try recording a sound by going to Start > All programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. If it's not working, make changes with the mic settings and try again.

You'll also need to inspect the mic very carefully and make sure there's no obstruction on the mic-hole. Even if you keep changing the settings and don't get any sound from the mic, i would suggest you to use an external mic and try again. If it works, then the problem is with the integrated mic.

I wish you good luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like a software issue, possibly with webam central. There's a free player that has good codecs, and it may help you. Here it is:
http://www.finalmediaplayer.com/
This will be an easy fix if it works.

Webcam says to close other video streaming on dell integrated webcam

Well, there are two things you can do,
You can go to device manager, and update drivers for the integrated webcam, which would be listed under imaging devices
Or get yourself Vista!!! I am not sure whether it works with Win 7 just get it confirmed from someone about 7..
Good luck!!

My web camera on dell labtop does not work i've tried everything

Locate your Cam in "Device Manager" and update or roll back the driver, whichever fixes it. Try one and if it doesn't do it try the other. You may also do a "Custom" Microsoft update if you are running windows and look under additional hardware updates to see if your Cam is listed, if so select the update and install them. Should get your Cam going again.

My Dell Studio 1737 integrated webcam does not work

I recently purchased a new dell laptop and had similar issues out of the box. I ended up having to format the drive and re-installing the operating system from the disk provided because the original install was corrupt.

"close other video streaming application to start video"

The same thing happened to me. But I believe this happened because I upgraded my Vista from 32-bit to 64-bit. How I solved it? The same way someone earlier suggested: update the driver:
1. Start the device manager (Click Start, type "device", and then click on "Device Manager" which appears as part of the search)
2. click the + next to "Imaging Devices"
3. Right click the "Integrated WebCam"
4. Click Properties
5. Click the option "Update Driver"
6. Automatically the updated driver will be loaded.
7. Restart your computer.

Hope this works for you.
