Musty smell, but can't tell from where

I purchased the GE 6240 appx 3 weeks ago and it seems to be eminating a musty smell from somewhere inside the washer. The clothes wash and smell fine. The inside of the drum smells normal, but the laundry room always has a musty smell. I have smelled behind it, beneath it and all around to make sure it isn't a leak in the wall. It is definitely coming from the washer. I have read of others with the same issue from washer not draining completely. Is that really the issue and if so, is there a solution?

I have the same problem. I have had my W/D for almost 2 years, the only thing that I have found that works is 1) Always leave the door open when not in use & 2) Occassionaly run a super hot cycle with soap and bleach w/o clothes. If you find a long term solution please share!!

A lot of machines can suffer from this problem. It is usually down to a bacteria build up between the drum and the tub. The majority of appliances that suffer form this have been used mainly on 40 degree washes and with a biological detergent.
The best way to get rid of this smell is to place two tablespoons of washing soda or soda crystals in the detergent drawer and then run the appliance empty on the 90 degree wash. You may have to repeat this treatment before the smell goes but it will go eventually. Hope you've checked out & cleaned your filter.
You can give me an excellent rating for the help, can't you? Thanks

I have the same problem with a 3 month old ge front loading washer.after 1 month it started off smelling musty..I thought it was my imagination, now at 3 months old our clothes smell so bad I think we might just have to buy new clothes! everytime I wash a load the clothes smell worse and now you can even smell it just walking into our closet 2 floors up. A new washing washing machine should NOT be doing this! so far leaving the door open in between washes has helped a little but I plan on tipping it back and finding the hidden filter today. Isn't it lovely that they don't mention a filter that needs monthly cleaning or it's location in the manuals?!

never did find the filter, but leaving the door open after every load has completely gotten rid of the musty, mold smell.

My GE GTWN425dws top loading washer has a musty smell I can't dissipate with vinegar and baking soda. Is there a clogged filter somewhere? Something in a hose?

Set the load to large, set the water temp as hot as it allows, pour in two cups of bleach and run it with no clothes.

Clothes have a musty smell if left in the washer

Make shure to do a cleaning cycle. As well, wipe out the inside, the rubber gasket and the door when done washing for the day. We also have found that
leaving the door "Open" for several hours, when finnished, eliminates any future
smells.

Make sure the door is kept open when not in use and also make shure that you do the cleaning procedure as described on the book once a month.

Clothes Smell Musty and Damp

It sounds like a build up of washing residue. Clean inside the door seal and do a very hot wash with a bit of washing powder and no clothes. Repeat this once a week until smell has gone.
