I have a Canon MP460. I have tried 3 sets of ink cartridges MP-40 and MP41 and the printer fails to recognise the cartridges. Would you have any idea to what the problem may be? Many thanks, Sean

The problem may be with the connecting strip ( white) between the cartridge bay and the control board. rmove the strip and clean both the connecting edges using isopropyl alcohal and soft cotton cloth. reconnect it
it will not work if somewhere it is broken, so check it also.
It may be due to the contact pins, from where the printer communicates with the cartridge. so check whether the contact pins are clean or clean with isopropyl alcohal using a soft cloth. reconnect the cartridge and off on the printer.
clean the cartridge contact area also with the same.

When you say does not recognise the cartridges. What does the display and pc say? Also observe the orange and green lights and tell us what sequence they flash.
Thanks

Canon MP460 ink cartridge not recognised

Perhaps the chips in the cartridges have failed? In which case you may need to replace them with brand new cartridges. If that doesn't work you might need to send it for repair as the cartridges might have damaged your machine.

Impossible to use a Canon mp 180

Hi Lui,

this is a common problem when using refilled cartridges.

You can either go into Control Panel --> Printers and Faxes
Right click on the printer and select properties, then look for a maintenance or color section

There should be a setting to ignore the cartridge levels
If this fails look at the solutions here:

thanks, good luck HPC

Canon pixma mp460 all in one printer will not recognise ink cartr

You need to check that the canon label on top of the cartridge is near to the to the two lugs, there should be only a tiny gap. The label should not be placed at the bottom near the curved lug. If it is not in the right place I think it covers the chip that talks with the printer and thus sends an error message.

Canon mp460 not recognising replaced ink cartridge and cannot get rid of alarm code

hi guys,
BTW, did you refill the cartridge?. First, try to press START button (Black or Colour). Perform this procedure for each cartridge. If the problem still persist there some possibilities: cartridge error, carriage part or logic board is faulty. Then you need to replace faulty part.

Compatibility of Ink cartidge.

The MP600 does not use the 40 or 41 cartridges, it uses individual color (and black) ink tanks. But other models (MP190, MP460, MP470, etc) do use these cartridges. The error message you are receiving indicates that the printer does not recognize the cartridge you installed as a valid black ink cartridge. This can mean that either the cartridge is faulty, or that the printer has a problem.
I would suggest trying another new cartridge, and if you still get the same error, to contact Canon for support options if the unit is still in warranty.
