The 1027 can be equipped as a scanner, but there is a special module the copier needs to have installed. A quick way to check if it's been installed is to look at the function keys to the left of the touch screen. There should be a key for Copy, and maybe one for Document Server as well. If you see keys for Printer and Scanner, then you have the ability to scan and you just need to configure the settings. Otherwise, you'll have to purchase the print/scan kit in order to be able to scan.
