SOURCE: lg plasma

there are 2 types of flicker, one is the lamps that drive the display and the second is the sync signal of the video.
I assume the video sync is the flicker you see,
I would try connecting a different way to make sure it is not the tv,
connect using the aux /rca connectors to cable box.
and or connect using the cable direct bypassing the cable box.
I have seen several complaints about the hdmi cable signal being incorrect in some way,
this is the same issue that the svideo connector had in its early adoption signal was too hot or too low.
another thing to watch out for is the low light sensor on the front of tv if it gets an incorrect reading it can flicker the back light though it should be slow in doing so.
some times the flicker you see is not flicker but ac running through the sides of the picture from an ungrounded cable source.
how does it perform if you play a dvd player , with and without the cable box connected.

My lg plasma really flickers but it does this randomly. Sometimes it will happen all the time other days not at all. I have tried sorting the cables and unplugged etc. it is 10 years old but just wanted...

I suspect its a component (Capacitor) aging and eventually would need to be replaced. How do you have it connected? Is there a cable box or Direct TV receiver that you use to display TV Channels? If 10 years old does it even have an HDMI input? Should be very happy you got 10 years of life out of this Plasma. My thoughts is that it would take more to repair this than to purchase a new LCD or LCD/LED thinner TV. Plasma does have the best color but the LCD and LED TV's are much lighter/take less energy and are much brighter. Good luck.

Phillips 42

The most common way to connect a PC to a TV is with an HDMI cable. Most new TV's have this input, however not all computers have this output. Does your PC support this connection? If so, you can get an HDMI cable either online (I recommend monoprice.com) or from any local big box store (Walmart, Target, Best Buy)

I've a Panasonic 42' Plasma tv purchased recently and when I connect my Comcast DVR box via Composite A/V connection, I see only black n white images..

Be sure the 3 video wires are color matched on both ends. Try a different cable. Connect another device like dvd player to that same Component input if it's ok then cable box is the problem. If still B/W then replaced a/v or main board.

Hi,
When you say "struggles to get a signal" I assume you are receiving HD programming over the air using HDTV antenna. If so, try to re-orient the antenna. Better yet, go to this website http://antennaweb.org
type in your address and it will provide you with the best antenna and antenna positioning based on your location.

If you are receiving HD programming via cable or dish, contact your service provider and they can best resolve your issue if the problem is beyond the loose cable connection in your TV's tuner input.

Connection for tv cable to hitachi 42" plasma Tv

there is no cable slot. the monitor is not a receiver. it has no tuner in it. it will need a signal from a tuner box. and that must be fed to the tv with an hdmi cable or a dvid cable for hd to work. see your manual for further information on cables. see your cable supplier for information on hd boxes available in your area. if you do not buy hd service, you will not get an hd signal. so you will see little difference from a non hd device. your dvd player may have hd capabilities, but will also need the same cable to deliver true hd signal.
the good news is that its fixable by using the right equipment.
good luck
