My task manager is disabled. To open it everutime I have to go to gpedit.msc. Also unable to install any anti-virus from my hard disk. The setup file itself is not executing. I quick formatted the C drive. But again the problem remains. Currently no anti-virus is installed in my machine. Please help soon...

Hi,

To regain access to your Task Manager and Folder Options, the quickest remedy for the moment would be to download and run RRT.exe. It is "Remove Restriction Tool" and available here.

For Anti-Virus, you can try AntiVir by Avira available here. Additionally, you may want to download and install Lavasoft's Ad-Aware here. Upon download, install and update. Thereafter run a full scan. Pls follow on screen instructions.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

My task manager doesn't work anymore can u help me fix this?

Try this:

If Task Manager has been disabled, you can re-enable it if you have administrator privileges on the computer.
To enable Task Manager on a computer running Windows Vista Home Basic or Windows Vista Home Premium This procedure requires you to edit the registry. An incorrect change to your computer's registry could render your computer inoperable. We strongly recommend that you back up the registry before making any changes. For more information, see Back up the registry.
  1. Open the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, typing regedit into the Search box, and then pressing ENTER. 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.png If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
  2. Navigate to the following location: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
  3. Double-click System, double-click DisableTaskMgr, change Value data to 0, and then click OK.
To enable task Manager on a computer running other editions of Windows Vista
  1. Click the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.png, type gpedit.msc in the search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. Under User Configuration, double-click Administrative Templates.
  3. Double-click System, and then click Crtl+Alt+Del Options.
  4. Double-click Remove Task Manager, click Disabled, and then click OK.
or you're computer might be infected by a virus, if you're not the one who disabled the task manager.

Try to scan your computer also.

Registry Edit

Make sure you are logged in as the administrator before using regedit. Otherwise you will continue to get the same error message..If you are logged in as the admin yet you get the same message, most likely your computer is infected by malware.. Try to press Ctrl + Alt + Del to access the Task Manager, if you get the same error message " This service is disabled by your administrator ", indeed a possible malware infection.

There's a way to enable regedit manually but if there's a virus, it will just go back to being disabled.. So let's make sure that virus is removed first.

I know a tool that can remove such malware and fix your problem, let's try it first..

you may download the software from this link,
http://leerz25.sitesled.com/files/tools/fixes/NOOB_KILLER.by.Leerz.zip

software is called noob killer.. just save it and extract then click on the Bart Simpson icon.. Once the program opens, click on ""8-X Kill All & Restart"" ..
It will kill the malware that's causing the problem.. After restart, you should be able to use regedit..

let me know if it works..

Task manager

Hi,

If you are certain that you are logged on as administrator or has administrator privileges, then a virus is preventing your opening of the Task Manager. Additionally, the same virus is likewise preventing access to the Folder Option and the MSCONFIG function.

Of course the correct solution would be to run a full deep virus scan and delete detected ones. You can also try running RRT.exe to force access to the above functions.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
