No power hi i have a powershot a85 and it stoped working (ie) will not turn on can anyone help thanks

    I have exactly the same problem!

    I was out hillwalking and taking shots along the way, and then for no apparent reason, when I switched off, it wouldn't switch on again. I tried changing the batteries but that didn't work. Using the Canon website is no use either, as they just refer you to one of their service agents.

    Anybody else having this problem????

I have the same problem too. I turned it off and it will not turn on again. Bummer too I was taking it camping this weekend and went to check it to make sure the batteries were good and it is dead. The web site said to clean the battery contacts but mine are clean.

Hi,
It is known problem of ccd imager chip failure in Canon A85 camera and ccd imager chip will be replaced by local camera repair shop to solve this issue.
Since camera wont show live view/ blank screen so same gets saved as picture in memory card that is why no picture/ image in playback either.

If your Canon A85 camera shows memory card picture in playback but does not show live image in camera mode then it is ccd imager chip failure problem and ccd imager chip will be replaced.

Vista does not recognize my powershot a85 cam .. The error it is giving out when i connect the usb cable is 'USB Device not recognized' . It does not display in the my computer box . any ideas ?
Hi,
Try this first turn off your computer using shut down or pressing the power button and then unplug it from the wall outlet. Let it sit for about 30 minutes and then plug it back in.
You will not be getting the message 'USB Device not recognized' .

The CCD is faulty ... it is a faulty designed CCD ... Canon had recalled the product for a certain period just check if it is still on and get it replaced ..... or if you need a quick fix ...get the CCD replaced by your local repair man
