Hi I have a Dyson DC24 and the hose has become clogged with dog hairs (I wasn't watching and didn't empty it soon enough). I can't find anything in the user guide which will help with unclogging the hose (but I'm not very good at understanding picture only instructions). Is there any way of accessing the lower bit of the hose to get the dog hairs out?

Dyson dc24 no suction from hose

If your Dyson DC24 vacuum has no suction from the hose, it could be due to a blockage or a problem with the hose itself. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:
    1. Check the hose for any blockages or kinks. Remove any blockages or straighten out any kinks to restore suction.
    2. Check the hose for any visible damage, such as holes or cracks. If the hose is damaged, it will need to be replaced.
    3. Check the hose connection points to make sure they are secure and not loose.
    4. Check the filters to make sure they are clean and not clogged. If the filters are dirty or clogged, they can reduce suction.
    5. If the problem persists after trying these troubleshooting steps, you may need to take the vacuum to a repair center for further diagnosis and repair.

Vacuum is clogged with dog hair. How can clog be removed?

HI, it's Jim from Crucial Vacuum!

If your Shark vacuum is clogged with dog hair there are a number of general maintenance cleaning tips you could perform to help keep your vacuum working at its peak performance.

First let's check out your brush roll. Is there dog hair wrapped around the roll itself? If so remove it by pulling out the dog hair, or use a razor if its tightly wrapped around. Manually rotate the brush roll to help unearth any hidden clogs behind the roll.

If there's dog hair throughout your unit be sure to empty the dust cup after every use. When the dust cup isn't emptied often this leads to clogs and a loss of suction.

Also, be sure to check your vacuums hose for any clogs, or clumps of dog hair. Stretch the hose out as far as you can. If you notice a clog in a hard to reach place use a broom handle to unclog it.

Your Shark vacuums filters may need to be replaced, or washed and may be a source for a lot of the dog hair in your vacuum. Wash and clean your unit's filter weekly. To do so, empty your filter screen outdoors to take off any excess debris and then clean under running water until the water comes out clean. Allow the filter screen to fully dry before inserting it back into the unit. This may take up to several hours.

Why are the rollers not going around

Because either the connection is broken or more likley the drive belt is broken or there is too much carpet fluff, cat/dog/human hair on the brush.

Is there a way to clean the hoses in a Dyson DC24 upright?

Hi Stacy, it's Jack at Dyson.

We wouldn't recommend attempting to wash or submerge any of the hoses on your DC24. Any residual moisture could cause damage not covered under your machine's guarantee, potentially resulting in a chargeable repair.

It's normal for the hose to become discoloured after a period of use - you can remove any external dirt or residue with a soft, dry cloth.

If you'd like some further advice on this from our experts, please give us a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My dyson DC24 has very poor suction - all filters clean and hoses seem to be clear. had it for just over a year

    Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear your DC24 doesn't seem to be picking up as well as it should be. From your description of the issue, it sounds as if there may be a blockage in the machine - to locate and remove this, please follow the steps shown in our online Support guide:

    http://www.dyson.co.uk/support/dc24/dc24-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-picking-up-as-well-as-usual/how-to-wash-filters/check-suction

You may also want to take a look at the video below to make sure you've washed the filters as we recommend. Use cold water without detergent, and allow at least 24 hours for them to dry completely somewhere warm before replacing them. In normal use, this should be done at least once a month.

I hope this helps - if you'd like any further assistance or advice, please give our customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Used the vacuum cleaner to clean up damp baking soda on a mattress. Since then, the suction hose part is not working properly. Could I have clogged it? And what can I do?

    Hi there,

We wouldn't recommend using your DC24 to pick up damp baking soda, as it's not designed or tested for this purpose. To check your cleaner for blockages, please follow the simple steps shown in our online guide:

    http://www.dyson.com/support/help.asp?article=1120&product=DC24-ALLFLOORS

It's also a good idea to wash the filters - you can find out the correct way to do this by watching our video demonstration embedded below.

Hopefully, following these steps should resolve your issue. However, if you're still having difficulties, please get in touch with us directly so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting steps over the phone with you. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

You'll find the reset button in the red recess on the left-hand side of the cleaner head. Use the blunt end of a pencil or something similar to push it in until you hear an audible 'click'.
