My Maytag dryer does not heat. The ignitor glows hot, and the coils engage (click) which lets the gas ignite, but goes out after about 10 sec. So I figured it to be the thermo fuse at the burner, however, after diconnecting the two wires, it has continuity. Could one of the two coils be bad, letting the flame go out?

Are you sure the vent is open and not lugger? if it can't flow then it may be overheating and that will turn it off. check the vent and inside the dryer as there may be a blockage inside it as well.

SOURCE: maytag gas dryer not heating

You may want to disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer and try it. Flame rollback will cycle the burner off by the high limit.

Considering what you have already done to it, if the problem still exists you probably have bad coils on the gas valve. make sure you replace them as a set.

The thermal fuse is a one time device. If it opens, the burner will not come on at all.

SOURCE: The heat turns off after 3 seconds of flame.

There is a flame sensor failure.

Here is the ignition sequence for a furnace. This will help you understand what is happening/not happening.

Thermostat2.gif calls for heat.

draft inducer motor (DIM) starts drawing draft through heat exchanger.

Pressure switch detects proper operation of DIM, and sends signal to board to begin ignition.
(it detects negative pressure)

Ignitor starts ignition attempt and gas valve sends gas to burners.

Upon ignition, flame sensor detects flame and sends signal to board stopping ignition sequence and continuing gas flow for heat mode operation until thermostat is satisfied.

During this sequence the blower motor is brought on, and by using a series of temperature limit switches, the system assures that the unit is operating properly.
(If the blower is not operating, or the airflow is inadequate, the heat exchanger will overheat and trip one or more temp limit switches.)

There is also a "rollout" switch that detects improper flame pattern "rolling out" into the controls compartment.

Now, to apply that to your situation.

If the flame sensor does not sense flame, it shuts down the furnace to prevent a dangerouse gas build up.

With most modern glow coil ignition systems you have one of two failures.

1) the flame sensor is bad and needs to be replaced.

2) the control board is not proccesing the signal from the flame sensor and shuts the system down. In that case the board would need to be replaced.

There is a possibility that a temperature limit or roll out switch is breaking the curcuit, but that would be quite unusual to happen consistantly at three seconds.

Unless you have the ability and tools to test the snesor and board, the next step would be to replace the sensor first, and then the board if that does not fix it.

SOURCE: maytag gas dryer will heat for about one minute

The gas coils on the gas valve have gone bad. These are located on the gas valve and will be 2 solenoids. Replace them both and should be able to get as a set. 12001349 should be the number and cost less than 60.00 for the set. Good luck and thank you for using Fix Ya.

SOURCE: gas maytag dryer not heating up

check the thermal fuse in the dryer vent duct to be open, then if not the flame eye" radiant sensor" or the high-limit thermostat both on the burner tube if the sensor doesn't see(sense) a flame the gas valve will stay shut, then check the gas valve coils, both the BOOST and SECONDARY coil valves on the gas valve body as these can open up and not gas into the burner

Whrilpool dryer not heating up

MDG6400AW Gas Dryer: If you hear the click then the fuse is not blown. The ignitor is being powered up along with the sensor and coils. If the ignitor is not glowing then it must be bad. If it is glowing and shutting down then the sensor is doing its job. that leaves only them pesky coils. They are intermittent before they finally croak which means they heat a little then get hot and quit.

My Maytag model # mdg6000bww doesn't heat up?

First thing to check is the ignitor underneath the drum. (You have to open the panel to see it) It should glow shortly after the dryer starts, then the flame starts and the ignitor shuts off. If the ignitor does not glow then it or the thermostat is bad. If the ignitor is glowing but the gas does not light then the gas valve coils may have to be replaced. If the gas ignites but does not stay on either the flame sensor or the coils are at fault.

Stops heatinng

Hi, first thing to check is the venting. If the vent is plugged, it will cause the heat to short cycle.
If later in the cycle, the ignitor glows but will not ignite the gas, you will need to change the coils on top the gas valve. This is a common problem.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thanks
