I installed Webroot AntiVirus with Spy Sweeper and I get redirected to websites regularly, some links are not accessable and links to forms don't work. This happened on 2 separate laptops. All of these sites were previously accessable and I had an older version of Webroot installed and working. I downloaded & installed version 7 from Webroot's site and nothing changed. I uninstalled Webroot and still no change.

If you are getting redirected, you probably have spyware. try to downloadd, install, and scan Malewarebytes, and Superantispyware. (both free) Should clean up your browser problem. If not, run HijackThis, and post to one of the forums to have your log evaluated. (just google "evaluate HJT log" )

Also, where are you getting redirected "from" to "where" ? There is a good web tool from Trend Micro that is free called Trend Micro Web Protect Add On...TMWPAO...it's very good, I recommend installing it. You may be accessing a site that is no good...you can also install McAfee's free tool Siteadvisor, or Trend Protect from Trend Micro, or the WOT tool...all 3 of these browser plugins point out bad sites so you don't go to them...I recommend tham also.

I right click on the webroot icon and select home. it displays loading ... please wait. a short time later it displays an error has occurred. any advice would be appreciated. Michael.

I used to work with spy sweeper very often at my old job and I ran into this every now and again. Generally Spy Sweeper would need to be re-installed, or installed over to fix this. I recommend going to their website, and downloading the most recent version of the software. You should then be able to install the software, and it should turn your spy sweeper off and write over the bad files. If this doesn't fix your issue, I would recommend uninstalling your current version of SS w/AV and then once again installing from the website.

Error message

What type? Please describe. However is the error is upon installation here are some tips:

The Windows Installer Service is required to install Spy Sweeper/Webroot AntiVirus 5.8 or Spy Sweeper/Webroot AntiVirus/Webroot Internet Security Essential 6.1. However, by Microsoft's design, the Windows Installer in not available in Safe Mode. On rare occasions Safe Mode installation is still desirable, so Webroot has engineered a method to make this possible. This method uses a file called "SafeCore.exe".

If the installation is performed using "Safe Mode with Networking" and an active internet connection is available, the Version Guard feature of our installer will automatically download and run SafeCore.exe. No action on the part of the user is required. Otherwise SafeCore.exe will need to manually be placed in the same folder as the standard Webroot software installer.

(Example: if the installer file is already on the Windows desktop, copy SafeCore.exe to the desktop as well, and then run the Webroot AntiVirus/Spy Sweeper/Webroot Internet Security Essentials 5.8/6.0 installer to begin the installation process).

To obtain a copy of SafeCore.exe, please first check what version of the Webroot software you are trying to install. Right click on the installer and choose Properties, and then click on the Version tab. A File version will be listed.

  • If the file version is 5.8.1.55, please click SafeCore.exe to download the SafeCore files specifically designed for 5.8.1.55 and place it in the same folder that the installer is located in.
  • If the file version is 6.1.0.128, please click SafeCore.exe to download the SafeCore files specifically designed for 6.0.2.22 and place it in the same folder that the installer is located in.
  • If the file version is different than the two listed above, please contact Webroot Technical Support for an alternative option.

If the computer you are trying to install on does not have a network connection, it may be required to transfer this file from one machine to another using removable media such as a USB drive or CD-ROM.

If installing Spy Sweeper/Webroot AntiVirus/Webroot Internet Security Essentials 6.0, the Backup Component may not install completely in Safe Mode since it contains components that require the Windows Installer Service to install completely. You will need to re-run the installation in normal mode to activate the Backup component.

I need a key code to register my free scan spy sweeper and antivirus software that I just downloaded.

With some applications the publisher only wants the user to register using the free copy. tried contacting the publisher via their website or your application should have a registration link which will take you straight to the website

Removing webroot spy sweeper

This worked for me. Search the registry for webroot (start->run->type 'regedit'); in regedit, find 'webroot'. Delete the folder that has webroot (it has sub-folder 'spy sweeper'). McAfee should finish installing.

I have a subsription with McAfee and I cannot download the software before having this webroot spy sweeper removed.I cannot find it on my computer and never had a subscription with this webroot spy...

first uninstall the webroot spy sweeper through the following steps.
1.click start
2.go to control pannel
3.open 'add or remove program'
4.a window will open wait for some time until the list is populated

5 i)in that list find webroot spy sweeper and click remove
go through the uninstall wizard and finish the uninstallation process

5 ii)if you didn't find webroot spy sweeper there then it can be a virus
You need to download a program called MalwareBytes because that searces your entire computer
, finds the virus and completely destroys it.

http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html

Click the green 'download now' button (don't worry - this is free) and once you've downloaded it, got the updates and done a system sweep which takes a long time but it's worth it, you should be fine. It also solves the desktop, wallpaper and screensaver hijack, too.

6. restart your computer

7.open mycomputer click search and do a search for webroot spy sweeper
delete all the files and folders regarding webroot spy sweeper

8.now download mcafee before installing mcafee uninstall MalwareBytes and restart your pc
because at a time only one antivirus software should be used

i think this solution will help you
if the problem is not fixed please inform i will suggest some other ways

Spy Sweeper is for spyware and that is not the same as anti virus software..If you do not have anti virus software, you should consider a getting one of the more popular types such as McAfee or Trend PC Cillin.these are two readily available types .. It is good to have both spyware and virus protection and they are not the same.. Hope this helps you..
