Hi. It's very likely that you need to give it a really good cleaning and oiling. Take the bobbin case out and the needle plate off and brush out all the old lint and pieces of thread. Clean the tension disks on the upper tension assembly. I find unwaxed dental floss is good to use on the disks. Consult your manual for the oiling points, but a good rule of thumb is one drop of oil whenever metal moves against metal--and use sewing machine oil, not 3-n-1 or WD-40.
