I have window server 2003 OS and 500 GB free agent desktop USB hard disk is not showing in my computer. So how can i rectify it?

I just finished a Chat exchange with Seagate Tech support. MS Server OS's are not supported for FreeAgent devices.

It appears that whatever drivers exist in the XP install that recognize the USB device connection are not the same in the MS Server environment.

I plan to check the USB device drivers from both systems and see if the XP USB device drivers will work on Server 2003.

Windows xp will not recognise the seagate freeagent desktop drive

Assuming you have tried other usb ports and had no change, remove the usb connection, then go back into device manager and select the usb controller, right click and select delete as this will erase any input driver the usb port recognises. Restart the pc and then the controller should be reinstalled automatically as it sounds as though the controller has become corrupt for some reason. Go back into device manager and check there are no exclamation marks, reconnect the drive and see if it's recognised.

Seagate external hard drive problem

Hello, Did you try to use this drive on another computer? Did you have the same problem? Did you try using a different cable? I would try these things first in order to determine if the problem is with the drive or with the computer. Good Luck! Dr. Know
