Check to see if there are any updates avaliable for the software. If so download them and restart when prompt.
If that doesn't work then try reinstalling the program.

Hello there. To better understand your concern and isolate the issue, i will be asking a few more questions for troubleshooting.
1.What is the operating system on your computer? 2.When do you exactly get the error message,is it during the uninstall process itself? or is it during the reinstall of the software? 3.Is it configured to automatically scan your computer at a particular date and time? 4.Have you installed any other anti virus or any updates that you've made on webroot like the active notifications?

Error message

What type? Please describe. However is the error is upon installation here are some tips:

The Windows Installer Service is required to install Spy Sweeper/Webroot AntiVirus 5.8 or Spy Sweeper/Webroot AntiVirus/Webroot Internet Security Essential 6.1. However, by Microsoft's design, the Windows Installer in not available in Safe Mode. On rare occasions Safe Mode installation is still desirable, so Webroot has engineered a method to make this possible. This method uses a file called "SafeCore.exe".

If the installation is performed using "Safe Mode with Networking" and an active internet connection is available, the Version Guard feature of our installer will automatically download and run SafeCore.exe. No action on the part of the user is required. Otherwise SafeCore.exe will need to manually be placed in the same folder as the standard Webroot software installer.

(Example: if the installer file is already on the Windows desktop, copy SafeCore.exe to the desktop as well, and then run the Webroot AntiVirus/Spy Sweeper/Webroot Internet Security Essentials 5.8/6.0 installer to begin the installation process).

To obtain a copy of SafeCore.exe, please first check what version of the Webroot software you are trying to install. Right click on the installer and choose Properties, and then click on the Version tab. A File version will be listed.

  • If the file version is 5.8.1.55, please click SafeCore.exe to download the SafeCore files specifically designed for 5.8.1.55 and place it in the same folder that the installer is located in.
  • If the file version is 6.1.0.128, please click SafeCore.exe to download the SafeCore files specifically designed for 6.0.2.22 and place it in the same folder that the installer is located in.
  • If the file version is different than the two listed above, please contact Webroot Technical Support for an alternative option.

If the computer you are trying to install on does not have a network connection, it may be required to transfer this file from one machine to another using removable media such as a USB drive or CD-ROM.

If installing Spy Sweeper/Webroot AntiVirus/Webroot Internet Security Essentials 6.0, the Backup Component may not install completely in Safe Mode since it contains components that require the Windows Installer Service to install completely. You will need to re-run the installation in normal mode to activate the Backup component.

I tried to do an update on my webroot internet security essentials. It said there was another program running that needed to be uninstalled before I can update. It uninstalled everything. Now I'm having...

You may have another anti-virus program running which is preventing you from running your Wbebroot program. You can only have one anti virus program running at a time as they usually conflict with one another. With XP, you may have downloaded Microsoft Security Essentials. You can see if it's loaded and running by clicking on Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Services. Scroll down to the "M's" and see if the "Microsoft Antimalware Service" is listed. If it is, double click on it, and then stop the service by clicking on STOP. Then change the :startup type" to Manual and click on apply and OK. After you do this (or if the Microsoft Antimalware Service is not listed) perform the following.
Shut down yur PC and then power it back up. Immeadiately start tapping the F8 key until you see a menu titled "Windows advanced Options". Use the arrow keys to highlight "Safe Mode with Networking" and press enter. At the log-in screen click on Administrator and then click on "yes" to proceed into safe mode.
Windows will load witha minimal set of drivers. Now put in your Wbroot CD and try to load the program. If if dowsn't load, use "Add Remove Programs"in Control Panel to remove the program, After the program is removed, shut down your computer, start it again in safe mode, and then you should be able to load your Webroot software.
Finally shut down your computer and restart it in the normal manner, If Webroot still will not function, some other program you have loaded is interfering with it. You will have to find and remove the program or contact Webroot for further assistance.

Webroot will not load after start up

hi there, the program may be experiencing some problems with the startup. If it is still doing this, try going under run, type in services.msc and look for webroot antivirus, hit restart and see what happens. If it still doesn't load, try reinstalling the software and see what happens.

You will need to uninstall and install your program

Restart your computer--> black screen--> after the Bios check (is always the 1st step)--> start pressing the F8 key repeatedly--> Windows boot menu will apear--> use the arrows--> Safe mode

It will look different from you normal Windows (don't worry about this)--> go to Add / remove programs--> Uninstall your spysweeper program--> restart your computer normally--> install your program normally--> check for updates
