Tv comes on and shutts off immediately

I had a tv repair guy come buy and look at my set and I told him what was happening. My blue was out of wack and like every other day the tv comes on and shutts right back off. Today he took out the STK392-120 ic's. So then he still tries to turn the set on. Will they work without the ic's? If so what wrong with my tv?

He was checking to see if the set stayed on with the ICs out if it did the ICs are shorted. Its easier to unplug the convergence yokes and try it but some techs do it differently

SOURCE: Tv comes on and shutts off immediately

Well no, it won't exactly work with out the ICS which is an internal control relay card. He most likely was thinking it was a power distribution problem. My suggestion is to look at the power supply and make sure nothing is bridging any of the circuitry. Just like a computer the on and off button is attached to a set of pins, and just like computer motherboards the controls also exist for a reset. And if anything bridges these pins turning on the unit will just cause it to shut down again. Also look for water damage and heating damage that might have caused problems with the power supply unit.

My Hitachi 50" plasma has exactly same problem. I have called local TV service centre, and I was told min. charge is $500 plus $110 for pickup. It is out of the warranty now (almost 3 years old), I really don't know what to do.

Polaroid purple screen

I started to experience this problem as well. Eventually one day I turned my screen on and all the colors were crazy. Purple, Blue Yellow Green. I thought my TV was broken but then I noticed as well that the menu was not displaying the same issue. After messing with the menu for about 30 minutes I found the solution.

Go to SETTINGS. Then go down to DEFAULT. Select default and everything will be fixed.... for now. I think unplugging the TV over and over screwed up the settings. Hope this helps.

Philips 60

First of all, this is a major labor intensive repair on Philips TV's changing the blue CRT because the new CRT does not come with the coolant that is sealed between the lens and the tube.If you have never done this type of repair before you should not attempt. Changing the convergence board is one thing (you can solder in two STK392-120 IC's and repair the board instead)
but changing the CRT's can be a nightmare. If you are brave go to PARTSTORE.com and get the parts $600+ (I would order the service manual too...you will need it)

Tv comes on and shutts off immediately

Did you change any of the 6.8 ohm 1watt resistors with the ICs? That chassis always blows at least two of the 6.8 ohm resistors often four of the 6.8 ohm. And you cant always tell by looking at the resistors , they have to have one side unsoderd and lifted from circuit. There are 11 of them 3149 - 3160 are the 6.8 ohm resistors that need to be checked.

TV won't turn on immediately

Right now it should not be expensive to repair, the symptoms point to loose solder conection and it has gradually become worst,if you take the set to the shop it should cost less. What happens is the 10 legs the vertical ic has get overheated and loose,to prove this tap on the side of the set just to see if it reacts,it should also be check for other overheated areas while in service. If the quality of the picture is good then is worh repairing.
