Intermittant vertical black bars on 42HP84

there is a good chance that I can solve your problem, although for me and others this problem usually shows itself as black bars that go from top to bottom, not just half way. go to the following link and read the entire thread, it is very good info. I have done this and it worked perfectly on a gateway plasma, but it also works on numerous others. there is a guy on ebay that sells a fix for $80, and it appears to be exactly what i did.

Half the screen on the pic is sort of thermal looking

if it looks like its perfectly in half, it would have to be the light engine. common failure is usually half black, half good.

Toshiba 43H72

You need to replace both convergence ICs they are STK392-110 you can get new replacements at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures so you can do the repair yourself in about a half an hour. You need to replace both ICs same numbers STK392-110. Heres the link.

Green and pink double vision on my tv

This is a convergence problem. Try resoldering the pins on the convergence ICs. These are large black ICs attached to a heatsink. They should have about 15 pins and be marked STKxxx. If the resoldering does not resolve the problem, replace the ICs. These should cost about $15-$25 each.

Screen just split in half

Is the tv still in warranty? The problem is the upper buffer board, it's a small board that controls the upper portion of the screen. You will have to consult a service center to get it, it's very easy to install

It sounds as you desribe, the vertical output IC and or the b+ feed capacitor off the Hi voltage transformer feeding the vert. IC its required voltage. Not a really hard job to replace, but not for a handi person to do. This should be left to the professional, as there are no user serviceable parts inside this set and with the HI voltage and the safety issues its best to call somesone to assist you with this repair.
