Good day,
Freezer burn is due to too cold a temperature in the freezer compartment. Nominal for that machine is 4 to 5.
However only time will tell you what is acceptable, since freezer burn can occur even at a warmer setting, if the product is stored a long time.
1 is warmest and 9 is coldest. I would lean to a slightly warmer setting to start off but that will create a trade off, since it would reduce the speed of ice production, and with especially high quality ice cream, possibly ice cream being too soft.
Patience is your friend here. But what you want is there.

What setting do I use to make the freezer freeze food

When you are freezing something, set your freezer on its highest setting. However, if you are going to leave your freezer empty for a long time, you should change the setting to a lower one. Here's a great tip for ice cream: place a tub of ice cream in a ziplock bag before putting it in the freezer; it prevents freezer burn. You know when your ice cream gets so cold, it's hard to scoop out? Doing this stops that, it's keeps the ice cream just soft enough for easy scooping!

Check to see if the sensor in the freezer compartment is encased in ice. If so, do a complete defrost and restart the unit. Another possibility is a bad thermostat and/or sensor.

The fridge is not cooling, but the freezer is

could be several things wrong. I'll start with the simplest first. Its possible that you have the thermostat set to the coldest setting. and what his does is actually close off the damper and prevents cold air from entering the fridge. the freezer will be colder because no air is entering the fridge. If you do not have the thermostat set to the coldest setting, let me know and we can go to step 2. at least this way we ca eliminate each step 1 by 1 to get this fixed for you.

The freezer has a layer of ice. how do i defrost this to clear it out?

Hi!!

Turn unit off, use a heat gun or hair dryer (to speed up process), make sure air duct going to the fridge is free of ice too.

All fridges have a defrost timer to prevent this from happening, even thou it happens. Check temp. settings, freezer temp. should be about 1/3 of range and fridge setting should be about half. wait 24hrs between adjustments until you get it right.

Don't forget to rate this answer, Good Luck!!!

Freezer burn

freezer burn is the result of sublimation (the change of state from a solid to a vapor) In order to prevent/cut down on the rate of freezer burn make sure that all foods are tightly wrapped and/or sealed. The more are you can remove from the package before freezing the better. That is why vacuum sealing is so popular. Hope this helps

I just moved into a home with a kenmore chest freezer. This is a real dumb question, but which symbol means on. Should the circle be showing for "on" or should the line be showing for "on"?

Some freezer models feature a temperature
monitor that provides an audible
alarm. The temperature monitor alarm is
located near the temperature control

The alarm sounds if the temperature in
the freezer rises 10° F (12° C) or more
above normal for selected setting. Alarm
may sound if temperature control dial is
turned to a much colder setting or if a
large amount of unfrozen food is added at
one time. Alarm is controlled by a three
position switch

0 = OFF prevents alarm from sounding
when freezer is warm, such as during
initial start-up or defrosting.
• ✓ = TEST sounds alarm regardless of
temperature. Alarm system should be
tested at least once a month.
1 = ON is proper setting for normal
freezer use. Return switch to 1 after
defrosting.

Refrigerator top freezer door slightly rubs to inside freezer bottom while closing the door that opens on right side. Due to this after closing the freezer door, the door opens less than a mm near the left...

I think I can help. Usuly the doors have been swapped around in this case. look closely at the freezer door on hinge side. there should be a small metal piece that covers the hinge to prevent anything from jamming hinge. this shield also serves as a spacer. this is what sets the door at the correct height. if the piece is missing you can have your local appliance dealer order one for you. it only takes a few minutes ts to install. you will need to remove the freezer door to do this. Hope this helps and good luck.
