Kenmore 55612 / 55614 / 5561 / 655619 Side by Side Refrigerator Logo

I have a Kenmore side by side, not sure the model, but it's probably 10 years old or so. It has an ice maker with water, cube and crushed ice dispenser. The ice maker works fine, but it will not dispense ice, crushed or cube. Water dispenser works fine too. When I depress the button on the doors in the cube position I can hear a clicking sound but the motor does not seem to turn. In the crushed position there is no sound at all.

Most of the time the bin has been removed and not put back in properly. When this happens ice blocks the drive motor. Remove the bin and turn the auger by hand make sure it will turn and is not jammed. Now with the bin out push the light button in that turns the light out and have someone push the button for ice while the door is still open the motor should turn in the back make sure thereis no ice blocking it. If it turns nothing is wrong with the motor. The clicking sound is usually the motor jammed by ice or the auger not engaged on the motor. hope this helps good luck

I have tried those things recommended by Allen, no luck. The clicking sound is there but the motor does not turn. The auger works fine, as it can be turned by hand. Also the crushed ice motor does not engage when the button is pushed and it is in the Crushed Ice position.

There is a square opening that a metal rod under the ice been goesinto in the back near the motor that drives both the ice cube dispenser and when you select crush it cube you will hear a loud click because in this square opening there is a plastic lever that hits the metal rod on the bottom of the icde maker which turns the auger to dispense the cube. When you select crush this plastic lever does not come down and engage the metal rod which locks the crusher in it is driven by the same auger and motor as the cube ice. If the motor does not turn and the light switch is working it is your ice maker auger motor its self. They cost 40 to 60 dollars. good luck

Thanks Allen. It sounds like I need a new motor. I don't mind spending the $, but is it an replacement that I can do myself or is it better to have a repairman come in? I'm pretty good with tools, but not an expert. And does it take any special tools?

As far as you walked yourself thru this problem you should have no problem replacing the motor yourself. There are no special tools needed just remember to unplug your fridge before diving in. You have a nice day.

LG ice maker will not dispense cubes without crushing them

Check the evaporator system, that release the cubes, when that does not work the cubes stay stuck inside.

Frigidaire model glrs267zcwi side by side. Crushed ice comes out when either the crushed or the cubed button is depressed. How to fix it please?

It sounds like the water line to the ice maker is partially obstructed (probably semi-frozen) and the unit is making smaller than normal ice cubes. This causes the ice ejector to "shatter" the smaller cubes, producing the appearance of crushed ice.

The easiest thing to try is make sure the water line connection inside the freeezer isn't frozen. A hair dryer can be used to thaw the inlet to the ice maker, but just be careful. Remove some of the product in the compartment so you have enough room to work.

Kenmore frig ice machine doesn't make cube ice

Normally, the ice "cubes" are crescent shaped. The most likely cause for "crushed" ice is that the ice maker isn't getting enough water on its refill cycle after ejecting the tray. Becuase there isn't enough water, the ice looks crushed...it's actually shattered.

Check the water inlet and chute to the ice maker. Sometimes they freeze and have to be manually defrosted. A hair dryer will do the trick. Also check the water chute and be sure it isn't partially frozen.

Start there...if no luck you could also have a failing water filter or sticky water solenoid valve.

ICE CUBE MAKER SMELLY ICE CUBES

Hello margrek
Welcome,

YOU SAID, YOU HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER THE ICE CUBES SMELL HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM

Ice has bad odor and taste.

1• Ice has picked up odor or
flavor from strong food stored
in refrigerator or freezer.
2• Water running to ice maker
has poor taste or odor.
3• Ice not used frequently enough.
4• Cover foods tightly. Discard stale ice. Ice maker will
produce fresh supply.
5• Add filter to water supply line. Consult a water purifying
company.
7• Discard stale ice.
