Hp Pavilion dv6000's dvd-rw won't work

Hey,

I have an hp pavilion dv6000 and suddenly its dvd-rw driver (which is optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A ATA) decided not to work. when I put a dvd and click on Drive E it ejects the disc and says "Please insert a disc in drive E" and even doesn't try to read it. when it's a CD it tries to read it for a while and considers the disc as a blank 702 mb writable cd and asks write method.

my os is vista.. is it a pysical problem or something about drivers etc.?

I HVE A SIMELAR PROBLEM WITH MY DV6000. IT WILL READ SONE DISKS BUT NOT DVD VIDEO DISKS. I TALKED WITH A TECH SUPPORT GUY WHO TOLD ME IT WOULD REQUIRE A REGESTRY EDIT. UNFOURTUNATLY MY COORDLESS PHONE BATTERY DIED BEFORE I FOUND OUT HOW TO FIX IT.

WILL TRY AGAIN TOMORROW AND LET YOU KNOW. GOOD LUCK:

I have exactly the same problem. The device manager says the device is working properly but apparently it is not.

  • Anonymous Oct 17, 2008

    I have the same problem.
I believe the issue is hardware related because this started while I used Windows Vista. I dropped vista after several months and installed Ubuntu Linux - and the issue persisted.

I put my disk in the top tray (LightScribe Dvd SuerMulti Drive/CD-Writer) and it will not detect the disk I put in. I have tried multiple different discs, and all I want to do is burn some songs onto a CD for my friend.

I had this problem o both of my dv7's. When putting the disk on top of the drive spindle, make sure that you hear all 3 pins snap onto the disk. Some disks will not lock easily onto the pins, and when the drive bay is closed, the computer will issue an error message. Hope that this helps.

After trying everything and even calling HP tech service who could not find a way to fix my dv6000, I finally just cleaned the laser diode lens with a silk cloth and the dvd drive worked like new reading cds and dvds just fine. I tried the uninstall and reinstall also and even reformatted the drive with no luck. Sometimes the simplest fix is the right one.

SOURCE: hp Pavilion dv6000's dvd-rw won't work

You do need to take out the high and low filter in the string in the registry. Also remove the same filters w/ a .bak extension. I own a large computer business and we see this almost daily in XP and up.

Optiarc dvd rw ad-7561a ata device unplugged

Check BIOS for Optical drive. Press F key noted on boot screen to enter. If it's not noted there, you need to check physical connections. Might just need to be re-seated with power disconnected. Re-check BIOS and make sure to save before exiting.

If it is noted in BIOS and Windows still fails to see the drive. Run a thorough virus scan, then boot into Safe Mode by pressing F8 during startup. Go to Device Manager, and select Show Hidden devices under the View tab. Delete all drives and reboot. Windows should say new hardware found and install.

This should take care of the problem if there is nothing wrong with the drive. Replace or seek professional support is not, and good luck

My optical device needs drivers

Optical drives don't need drivers, they all use the same generic driver that comes with Windows.

The driver is not detected by laptop

Is your dvd drive capable of doing light scribe?: If not, then the driver won't make it work. It takes a special drive to use lightscribe, and it should be part of your CD/DVD burner software. I highly recommend Nero software as the best, more reliable and easiest to use. Also, it the brand that usually comes with New CD and DVD drives.

Optiarc dvd rw ad-7561a ata driver

weird. Try using Windows System Restore to revert back to before installing dameon tools. You can try installing it again but I would re-download just to be safe. It it happens again you might want to try alcohol 120% instead.

The Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A ATA won't work on hp pav dv6000

Windows uses generic simple drivers for any optical drives. Try deleting the drive from device manager and reboot. You do not need to download anything special for windows to operate a drive. If you cannot access the drive then it may be damaged or a hardware fault.

Optiarc DVD RW AD-7561A This device cannot start. (Code 10)

I beleive that this code is being displayed under the Device Status in the Properties window of the DVD Drive in Device Manager.
If it is so, you need to do some modifications with the Registry to resolve the issue and I am sure that the issue will be resolved with this.
However, since you had not specified the Operating System which is installed in the Notebook is Vista or XP.
However, I am providing the links which includes the steps for both Vista and XP to edit the registry to resolve the issue with Error Code 10 with the DVD Drive in your Notebook.
Removing Upper and Lower Filter in XP :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060

You need to perform the steps listed under Advanced Troubleshooting to delete the Upper and Lower filters.

Removing Upper and Lower Filter in Vista :
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-us
You need to perform the steps listed under Resolution in the link above.
You may not find both the Upper and Lower filters according to the instructions links provided above.
Delete the ones among the Upper filter or Lower filter or both which you find in the locations mentioned.
This should solve the issue...
