Most of laptops come with a built-in microphone. But Toshiba Satellite P10/15 models don't have a built in microphone, so you'll need to use an external microphone to record voices or other sounds. Using an external mic requires just a bit of additional configuration. Go to options to properties and under recording put a check mark in Microphones and then click OK.
You can open the Voice Recorder app on your computer and test if there is voice appear. By the way, if you want to record the PowerPoint presentation as a video file, see: How to Record PowerPoint Presentation?
Most laptops do have Microphones built in. I do not know for definate that your laptop does, but you can easily test it to find out.
1. Go to the volume control (double click the speaker icon near the clock on the taskbar), go to recording properties and select microphone as the recording source and set the slider to about 80%.
2. Bring up microsoft sound recorder (its in the start menu somewhere) and click record... when you speak you should see a voice print appear in the sound recorder window.
If you do not see a voiceprint, then you probably dont have a built in microphone, but if you do see a voiceprint as you speak then you do have a microphone built in and you can record into your powerpoint shows to your hearts content.
Hope this helps!
