No, your set functions with Florescent Backlight Tubes. As a rule SONY does not recommend replacing these, due to the extreme clean room conditions needed to perform this repair.

Normally, the LCD panel would then be replaced as a complete unit. This will be very expensive on your model, a new set would be your best bet.

A new panel would set you back more than 1000e ( Euros ) Surely you could purchase another set for less.

Basically it is problem of lcd panel (screen) but some times T-Con board (it is also part of lcd panel) replacement fix the issue.
T-Con board is located top center of lcd panel at back and need to take off back cover of tv to see it, this board would be covered under metal shield.
Expertise are required to replace this board and novice can damage lcd panel (screen) permanently.

T-Con board is part of lcd panel and lcd panel seems defective in your tv problem.
Call Sony/ Store if tv is still under warranty for cover or lcd panel replacement would cost you 80% of new tv price.

i have the same problem, apparently the LCD panel needs to be replaced and this will cost more than the tv is worth... Advice is to not buy a sony again, because this is a common problem and they wont extend the warranty, even if its 2 weeks after it runs out...

its cheaper, and this is honest as it happened to me as well it's cheaper to buy a new tv.
