Panasonic DMC-TZ3 72 dpi problem

When importing pictures taken with the panasonic DMC-TZ3 Photoshop and Corel Paint Shop Pro show the resolution as 72 dpi. I have checked the camera and the pictures are taken at 7.1 mp. The photos are sharp and crisp.

The problem is with printing the photos to online services. These services see the image at only 72 dpi and won't print because of built in safe guards that state is needs a higher dpi to print a 4x6 photo.

Is there a way in the camera or either of these two programs to fool the info and replace it with 300 or higher dpi. If I try to change the photo by resizing it increases the physical size of photo 10 fold. Usually the photos are about 3 meg and this will increase them to over 300 meg.

Thanks

I have the same problem. Photos are taken at the highest resolution 7 MP and when opened in Photoshop are 42" x 32" at 72 p/i resolution and are about 2.7 MB. How can I get them to import as 8" x 10" at 300 p/i resolution?

when i send my pics to an online service, they reject them too because of supposedly low resolution.  Doesn't make sense.

Sounds like Photoshop's setting, or default setting, is to import picture at its maximum size. If you RESIZE pic on Photoshop, it shoud automatically increase DPI while reducing physical size.

The other thing to be aware, TZ3 defaults to a certain jpg compression. You can minimize compression of data with settings options on TZ3, but I doubt this has anything to do with your PhotoShop issue.

Also, in SIMPLE mode you can select a physical size for photo, even after pic is taken(resize), on camera.

Hopes this helps.

On a newpaper ad, I try to upload a picture of a model, and the proof shows the head & feet cut off. How do I adjust the photo so it fits nicely in the ad?

If you have Adobe Photoshop, use it to "clip" and "resize" the picture.
If you want free software to "clip" and "resize" images, see http://www.GIMP.org ("The Graphic Image Manipulation Program"). Download and install The Gimp -- it's _free_ software.

How do I increase the dpi on TZ5

Hi - When talking about resolution in digital photography there are two main meanings.
One is the "pixel count resolution" and the other "embedded resolution". So for example your camera could record 2272*1704 as the actual pixel count resolution and set 72 as the embedded resolution that tells other software (for example photoshop) what the intended use of the picture will be. 72 ppi is the default for web pictures. You can change this in photoshop by going to the "Image" tab & select image size. The window that opens will show you the pixel dimensions i.e. pixel count resolution and the document size & resolution 72. You just change it in your software to 300 for printing. In Photoshop you can change the default to 300 by going "edit", "preferences", "units & rulers" and setting the values for "new document preset resolutions".

So for your camera the embedded resolution is 180 which you can only change in your PC software.

This is a complex subject, I recommend looking at the following web page:

Recovering corrupted data on a san disk - Lumix DMC-TZ3

Hi,

Hope this helps:
----------------------------------------------------------------
CardRecovery-trial This software is free.

Lexar ImageRescue This software has to be bought, but it isn't too expensive.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
There are many other image recovery softwares out there.

If you are lucky, then you might get away with one for free. I got ImageRescue and Corel Paint Shop Pro 9 for free bundled with a Lexar SD card!

CHANGE DPI

Yes, every picture has a resolution of 72 ppi. This can be changed later in an image editing program on the computer.

Poor printing resolution...?!

You can select whatever resolution you want to print at on your Print(er) Setup.

If your Printer is automatically selecting a 72DPI to print at, you may be trying to print a 10X12 pic size or larger by default due to pic file size created when pic was taken in camera with full 7Meg resolution.

Use photo software to proper size the print before printing. If you want a print larger than 5X7, keep in mind the TZ3 begins to have recognizable noise, reduced resolution due to noise, especially in low light indoor or evening/nite outside shots. You can use photo software to improve and size them before printing. Windows Vista has a built-in photoshop type program. Else, I believe your camera comes with one on disk.

Also, read your manual regarding shooting with this camera.
