The door of my dvd player will not open. It sound like it wants to, but nothing happens.

Hi cant oen ..I have had it too. .Mostly with homemade Dvd`s and Cd`s.
I have had luck-with turning it all of electricity a while... and then when I plug it in and start-I push the open button before it starts reading the disc.. Know it sounds simple.,, but it have worked for me

Combo units have this essential flaw--if one half fails you are usually done especially if the DVD side fails.

If Door does not open either a disc is jammed inside the mechanism or the mechanism is out of alignment or damaged.

Good argument against buying these units--DVD individual parts are rarely sold--only (if available) would be the entire DVD unit itself--not cost effective to repair.

DVD players are now real cheap (see some for as little as $20) so if not a simple jammed disc or something like that buy a DVD player.

There is a small belt under the loading tray which would have gone slack ( loose ) and the sound you hear is it slipping on the motor pulley. If you are confident you can remove the mechanism and turn it upside down and access this belt. Dismantle only if you can get the spare belt or your efforts will be in vain.

the latch releasing the door not functioning, is ther a pin hole u can place paper clip to release?

sure its a caused of stock up. unplug power and open cover. check the the motor belts and gears maybe have broken.

Find the small hole on the front of the player. Get a paper clip and straighten it out. Stick one end in the hole and the DVD should pop out.

the drive is belt driven it may have come off, they can do this if its pushed in to fast.

I had the same problem before.  I found a loose rubber ring which drives the door open/close may be the cause.  Use honey wax or candle wax to wax the ring will be most likely to solve the problem.  The only thing is you need open the box by yourself.

i\'d say leave this thing out the door because my emerson did the same except mines a VCR

I have opened many a player and given the tray a slight assist. Voila it unsticks
