I have a Sony Bravia 52 inch HDTV that has a line down the middle of the picture in some shows, particularly when action is panning across a scene. Is this a common problem?

this could be a defective panel --is it like this on all inputs

The tv board call the T-CON decoders board have problems,that why colors vertical lines are showing up in the tv LCD screen panel.The T-CON decoders board,this board sit wright at middle bottom of the tv LCD screen panel.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish T-CON decoders board for the replacement.

It is the LCD Panel causing the problem. If the unit is out of warranty, it would be too costly to replace. If it is in warranty, you can call 1800-222-SONY and they could help you find a service to repair it.

Mine had the horizontal lines you are talking about. 1st check a test picture. Click on Menu, then Settings, then go to Product Support. From there click System Diagnosis and go to bottom and click on sample picture. If you see the same problem there, then you may want to research the possibility of installing a t-con board. You may want to try calling Sony 1st and have them walk you through the basic service repair items. I was very lucky and installed a new t-con board I purchased with all the other boards on Ebay. try cleaning T-CON Board to Lcd panel cable

There should be a setting in the menu of the TV to turn off the auto dim feature (used for adjusting the brightness of the picture depending on ambient room lighting) I don't have a Sony LCD here with me to walk you through the menu settings, but I am certain it is there somewhere. (Chased this issue for the wife who had the same displeasure you're having)

you need to feed 2 signals in to the set.
