The router can be set to factory default by performing either of these two steps:

Resetting the Router Using the Reset Button
Resetting the Router Using the Web-Based Setup Page

NOTE: Pressing the Reset button on the back of the router for 30 seconds will reset your router to its factory default settings. All of the settings of the router will then be erased and the router's IP address will become 192.168.1.1.

Accessing the Router's Web-Based Setup Page
NOTE:To access the router's web-based setup page using Mac, click here.
Step 1:
Open a web browser such as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].

NOTE : For WRP400, the default IP address would be "192.168.15.1" and if you place the router behind a primary router with the IP address of "192.168.15.1", then the router will automatically assume a new default IP address, "192.168.16.1".

NOTE: If the IP address of the router has been changed, type the router's IP address in the Address bar instead.

The router's IP address can be changed by:

1. Running the router's setup CD.

2. Changing it on the router's web-based setup page.
If you forgot the router's IP address you can:

1. Check the router's IP address. For instructions, click here.

2. Press the Reset button at the back of the router for 30 seconds.

NOTE
: This procedure will reset your router to factory defaults. Any settings on the router will be erased. The router's IP address will be "192.168.1.1" and the password will be "admin".

Step 3:
A new window will prompt for a User name and Password. Leave the User name field blank then enter your router's password ("admin" is the default password), then click OK.

If you forgot the router's password you need to reset the router. For instructions, click here.

Connecting new linksys n to our brother mfc685cw wireless printer. Printer will not read new linksys n router

Hi,

For isolation purposes, you may want to test the printer through the Linksys router via Ethernet cable and see if you can print if it is wired to the router. From there, configure the wireless printer to match the settings on your Linksys router. Once done, try printing again wirelessly.

Tips:
1. Make sure that they are on the same LAN segment. By default the IP address of the Linksys router is 192.168.1.1. so you may want to configure your printer using 192.168.1.2 for them to communicate.
2. Make sure that the wireless settings on the Linksys router match the wireless settings on your wireless printer. Check the SSID/Wireless Network Name and Wireless Security. All wireless settings should be the same for them to communicate wirelessly.

Forgot network password

Hello...if you need to retrieve your network key, eg to connect a new laptop to the internet, this can be found within your router settings.

Here's a rough guide:

1. Type your router IP address, eg http://192.168.1.1 or whatever is correct for your model, into a web browser address bar

2. Enter your router username and/or password at the prompt. The defaults for Linksys are username: (left blank) and password: admin : but if you have set a router password/username, please enter these.

3. In the router user interface, go to the section headed Wireless Security, or similar. Every router is different, so you may have to hunt around a little. Key words to look for are Security, Wireless Settings, Encryption, WPA, (or WEP).

Your network key will be somewhere here. It might be labelled PSK, pre-shared key, WPA or WEP key, WPA-PSK, network key, WPA shared key, passphrase etc – but that’s the one you need.

For more details, you could pick up a manual from the Linksys site or view the help pages; otherwise, please come back to Fixya with your model number, and let us know how we can help. Good luck

Securing my wireless linksys BEFW11S4 ver. 4

Hello,

I’ll be pleased to help if I can. To answer your last question first, this router is already set up for wireless networking, so nothing further needs to be done with regard to that.

However, to prevent others using your connection, it's necessary to set up wireless security. There are four main steps, which are the same for most routers:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection
2) Change the router login password
3) Change the network name (SSID)
3) Enable WPA encryption

Here are the details:

1) Login to your router, using a wired connection.
First, you will need an Ethernet cable to connect one of your computers to the router. This cable just plugs into a spare port on the back of your router, while the other end plugs into the Ethernet port on your computer (looks like this picture).

When you are connected, open a web browser on your computer. Type the router’s IP address into the address bar, which is http://192.168.1.1 for this model. (Note, there is no ‘www’)

You should then see a popup box, prompting you for a username and password. If these have not been changed, leave username blank and enter password: admin

If you log in successfully, you should then see the Linksys router configuration screen.

2) Change the router login password.
To set a new password, go to Administration > Management. Set and confirm a new Router Password. On this screen, I would also recommend that ‘Remote Upgrade’ and ‘Remote Administration’ are disabled. Click ‘Save Settings’ when finished.

(Tip: write the password on a label and stick it on the router, or keep it somewhere safe. )

3) Change the SSID (router name):
Go to Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings. Change the ‘Wireless Network Name (SSID)’ from the default, to anything you like, that you can remember. It is case sensitive, and you can use up to 32 letters –but do not use something that could identify you, or your location.

At this stage I’d recommend that SSID broadcast remains enabled.

4) Enable WPA encryption
Go to Wireless > Wireless Security. Enable Wireless Security. Under ‘Security Mode’ you have a number of options for encryption, but I would pick WPA-Pre-Shared Key, which is very secure and good for most equipment.

Under ‘WPA Shared Key’ you need to enter a network key. This is a long password, or passphrase, between 8 and 63 letters/numbers long. This can be any series of letters/ numbers, or you can use a phrase with numbers
( eg: 456the51stSTATeOFtheUSA1599 ). It is case sensitive. The stronger the network key the better, if you are very concerned about security.

Note down the network key carefully. You will need this to connect wirelessly. (The network key may also be called the WPA shared key, PSK, WPA-PSK, pre-shared key, security key, passphrase, or authentication key). Click ‘Save settings’ when finished.

That's it, you have done enough to secure your network, and can close the screen.

There are further security options to enable if you wish, but these three are the most important.

When you next connect wirelessly, you should see your network with its new name in the 'available wireless networks'. When you attempt to connect, you are asked for the network key you set in Step 4. If all goes well, you can then save this and will connect automatically in future.

Hope this helps you. Please come back to Fixya if this doesn't work, or if you need help with any of it.

Lost the install CD

hi,
it should be an ip conflict.I believe you are using both routers at same time which can give same ip address (as both routers ip range is same).hence by disconnecting one router(from network/power) will make your ip conflict resolved.
secondly there is no need of linksys installation cd as it will do more harm than good.routers dont need any software to run where as network adapters need drivers.if you have any further doubts ,you can directly post it.
thank you

Router

Before you can get online through the router all you need to do is change the Linksys router's IP address. Because the westell and the linksys has the same range of IP address that creates a conflict on your network that's why you can't get online.

First login to the setup page of your linksys router.
  1. Under the Setup Tab (this is the first screen that you will see after typing in the linksys router's password.) make sure that the Internet connection type is set to Automatic Configuration- DHCP, Then on the same page look for router IP address or LAN IP address. By default its 192.168.1.1, you need to change it to 192.168.2.1. And hit save settings. You will get disconnected from the linksys page, that is normal. If you want to log back in to the router page you use the new address of your linksys (192.168.2.1).
  2. Now you restart your computer to refresh the connection and that should get you online.
Just reply to my post to let me know if your done doing this. We will setup the wireless after we make sure that you can get online wired to the router.
