I'm going to guess that if you watch the display closely, it is alternating between an "H", and a "4". If that is the case, you have an "H4" error code. This is a fuser error and can either be a freak out from the machine, or an indication of something serious. I would recommend resetting the code and seeing if it comes back. To reset the code, turn the machine on and press "#" -> "Interrupt" -> "Clear" -> "Interrupt". Doing this should put you into service mode, where the display will show a blinking double dash (--). Enter 14 and press the green start button, just like you are trying to make 14 copies of something. At this point, the machine should restart itself and hopefully the error code will go away. If the error code does not go away, or recurs on a fairly frequent basis, I would recommend contacting a professional service technician.
My machine had the exactly same problem:
1. Push Start button to wash, but Draining/Unlocking light will flash right away. The drum started to run and stopped
2. No error code shown up
3. Run Quick test: no error code
4. Run Universal Test: error code F25 (later, found nothing wrong with the CCU)
What I did:
1. Clean the bump: found coins and strings.
2. Clean the drain pipe from the pump to tub: found more coins.
3. Clean chamber of pressure switch at the tub: found nothing.
4. Clean the gap between tub and drum: found a credit card!
After the cleanings, the Draining/Unlocking light would still come back and I almost gave up. Amazingly, I ignored it and a few minutes later.... the machine started to run as normal!
It seems that CCU needs sometime to reset itself after the failure.
You only have part of the error code. You need to hold down the "." key in order to get the rest of the code. Since there is only 3 error codes that begin with 4, I'll post them here so when you find out what the problem is, you can attempt to solve it.
E405 - Transfer belt/drum charge roller position abnormal E440 - Main motor lock E442 - Drum charge thermistor abnormal
It's most likely not the third, as this one doesn't normally cause the machine to stop operating. The first two can be reset by turning off the main power switch for a few seconds, then turning it back on. This will clear the error, provided it's not a hard error (one that reoccurs during the machines warm-up cycle).
Just so you know, due to the age, parts for this machine are getting hard to get...
plz press menu then start-bk-copy then fourtimes arrow up quickly after another. machine turns to maintanence mode. press start bk copy: what two digit error code does the machine display?
If it starts with a 4 you do need a new printhead!
The user can establish the internal Machine Error Code as follows: pull the mains cable out of the machine (power off), hold down the Menu/Set key, re-insert the mains cable into the machine (power on). The internal Machine Error Code will be displayed.
If that doesnt give you the code then try going into service mode by pressin menu key then *, 2 , 8, 6, 4 super quick!! Display goes blank or Maintenence mode is displayed, if not... not quick enough, do again to you get it, then press 77 start, error should display. press 99 to exit Maintence mode, dont play with other numbers!!
