That's why you cannot format a camera when you have a data backup. So, in the future, I hope you can learn a lesson to back up everything important well before you do any change to it.
But, right now, what you should is to restore all your lost pictures back as soon as possible:
1). Immediately pick out the inner memory card of your digital camera in case that any newly taken picture would rewrite your original photos.
2). Insert this memory card to your computer via a card Reader and prepare to retrieve all your deleted pictures.
3). Apply a formatted memory card photo recovery freeware to retrieve all your deleted photos back successfully:
http://www.formatrecovery.blogspot.com/2013/02/recover-data-after-formatting.html
I believe this data recovery freeware can work perfectly on your camera memory card just in the same way as it completely retrieves all the deleted data of my friend off from his phone memory card. Just give it a shot!
4). Save and back up all the restored photos on a different memory card or drive in case of data recovery failure.
Note: Never forget to back up everything important at least on two memory cards or locations in the future.
Good luck!

When you format you camra you can not retrive the picture you lost, you best way is to but a SD card from your local wal-mart and save you pictures on that in stead of you camras hard drive.

How do I delete pictures from a coolpix S4000

To delete individual pictures: while viewing the picture, tap the trash can icon on the screen, then tap yes when it asks for confirmation.

To delete all pictures on a memory card: format the card. TAP MENU, tap the wrench icon, select "Format card."

To delete all pictures in internal memory: format internal memory. Tap MENU, tap the wrench icon, select "Format memory."

The delete instructions are in the "Deleting Pictures" section of the manual (page 33 in my copy). The format instructions are in the "Format Memory/Format Card" section of the manual (page 150). If you need a manual, you can download one from the manufacturer's web site at

Can the factory loaded music and pictures be?

You can format the player which will remove everything off of the player including your stuff, so back it up. You can do this by going into the players settings menu and select format. When it ask you if you are sure, select yes and let it format. After that, the device will be fresh to go with no factory loaded stuff on it.

Vivitat 5388 reading instructions and researching set up i think i hit the format button when i looked back to see pictures it said no image help did i erase them?

Yes you did.If you haven't done anything with the card since then, you might have a chance to recover at least some of the pictures. Do a Google search for "format recovery software" and find a program for your computer and operating system. Take the memory card from the camera and put it into a card reader attached to your computer and run the recovery program.

Help

Hi,

Yes and in several methods as below listed. Since your posting refers to a generic problem for all digital cameras and not only an Olympus FE-230, some of the settings may have a different nomenclature or button name.
1. When you download pictures to you PC, rather than copy, select move; or
2. If you want to erase one picture at a time from the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow down/up, you will be asked to erase the picture displayed, select yes/no by up/down, then press OK (menu button); or
3. If you want to erase all contents of the memory card of the camera - press on the power button, then menu button, once menu is displayed, arrow right, down to select card, right to select card setup, right to enter card setup, arrow down to select format or erase all, OK. Erase all just erases the files, format erases all and re-initialize the memory card; or
4. Remove memory card from camera and insert into a memory card reader attached to USB of your PC. The memory from the camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.
5. Connect the camera via the supplied cable to any USB port of your PC. The camera will be treated as a removable device and you can view, move, copy, delete/erase, format. This option seems to be most effective in viewing all contents under Windows Explorer with the view setting set to Thumbnail.

Specifically for an Olympus FE-230:
1. Press the < or > buttons to display the picture you want to erase;
2. Press the trash can button (bottom right);
3. Press the UP button to select [YES], press OK;

or

To erase all:
1. Press the MENU button to display the top menu in playback mode;
2. Select [ERASE], [ALL ERASE], and press OK;
3. Select [YES], and press OK

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
