My Hunter 60" fan and light died and the receiver will not work. The remote has fresh batteries but the whole unit slowly stopped one day. Is there anything more than a new receiver that I would need? Could the motor(if there is one) be dead?

You probably need a new receiver.

This must be a common problem, since I Googled the part number and it popped up before I completed the number. I am going to have to order a new remote, since I don't have a solder pen. Wish me luck.

the receiver in the bell of the fan cap has died. be sure the dip switches on the remote and receiver are set to the same thing

Unfortunately, you either have a faulty reciever or remote. A replacement will cost $30-$40 at homedepot. And it doesn't matter which is faulty because you can't purchase them seperately anyhow.

Home Depot sells universal remote systems (transmitter and receiver) for around $30 (in Delaware & Pennsylvania) -- don't know price in Chicago).

I'd just replace it. Hunter may be correct that they are the only source for the receiver, but if you get a new transmitter as well, you don't need their receiver. The labor is the same either way.

There is a battery in the hand held remote and another battery in the receiver which gets tucked into the ceiling mount cover. Remove the ceiling cover and you will see the battery there, usually a 12 volt battery.

The upp/down slide is a dimmer.

In the event that changing the batteries doesn't solve your problems, Hunter makes replacement remote sets, available at Home Depot, lowes, etc and usually around twenty dollars.

I had the same problem and I thnk Hunter Fan knows about it....I just called Hunter Tecnical Support at 901-745-9222 and they sent me a new White circular receiver which goes inside of the canopy and it worked fine after installing the receiver....
