The Maytag Atlantis dryer (gas) does not appear to be igniting the burner when it is turned on. The problem has gradually become more frequent over the last couple weeks. Now, it almost never lights up. Everything else appears to be working. What needs to be done to correct the problem? Are there any other details that would help to identify the problem? Currently, we have only tried turning the dryer off and on until we hear the burner ignite. But, as the problem has become more frequent, this no longer works (the dryer almost never ignites).

Heat

it could be your radiant flame sensor on the burner tube that senses the flame,or it could be bad boost and secondary gas valve coils on the gas valve located inside the unit,a defective high-limit or cycling thermostat on the burner tube, any one or combination of these can cause your symptoms

Not getting hot. vent line is free of lint. Maytag Atlantis/gas

Chances are the hot surface glow igniter is not working. Most likely it is burned out. Set the controls to dry in high heat and note if the glowing coil does in fact glow. If not, it needs to be replaced. Open the burner access door and then turn the dryer on. Watch inside the burner compartment for the glow coil to light up and glow. If all the controls are set correctly on the front control panel and the dryer is running, but the glow coil fails to glow, you've located the defective part. The glow coil will need to be replaced.
To remove the coil, turn off the gas first. Unplug the dryer from the electrical wall plug. Then remove the entire gas valve as an assembly. The nut on the gas valve to remove it from the gas supply pipe turns counter clockwise. There will be small sheet metal screws used to secure the plate to which the burner assembly parts are attached. The plate holds the entire assembly and is attached to the bottom of the dryer's cabinet.
Next, remove the glow coil from the burner assembly. Take the entire assembled part to the local appliance retail parts store for a replacement coil. Glow igniters are fragile and they break easily. Handle and install the new igniter carefully. Glow igniters are a non-returnable and non-refundable electric component.
Be advised that some new replacement igniters do not come with quick disconnect ends. In this case, it is OK to cut off the quick, disconnect from the old igniter and attach it to the new igniter. Simply clip off the wires several inches above, disconnect the old igniter, attach to the wires of the new igniter, and wire nut the two ends together. Repeat the process to attach the other set of wires and wire nut them together. There is no positive nor negative polarity to be concerned with.
Additional Suggestions: Read the manufacturer's online Web site for product information, problem possibilities, causes and solving methods, part locations, disassembly, reassembly methods, repair procedures, instructions, pictorials and schematics, which may be available online.

Igniter works fine but there is no flame so therefore no heat

Replace the coils on this burner assembly. this will fix this issue you are having at this time.

The coils open and close the valves, which are responsible for gas flow. these coils are damaged.

Gas dryer doesn't heat up

,when you start your gas dryer you should here two clicks, if so then your ignitor should begin to glow if two clicks and no glow [its your ignitor] but you can use a volt meter and make sure 110 volts at ignitor if voltage replace ignitor with new.if not two clicks then its going to be your thermal fuse its in the same area as the burner Therese two kinds[only one in each dryer tho],both white having two wires and small, one looks like a missile the other a fling saucer.ither kind you can put the two wires going to it to gether ,isolate them with tape and try heating.if heats replace.now if fuse you need to check for any blockage, inyou house or dryer.over heating can cause the fuse to open if i can be of more help you can email thru fixya God bless ,tom

Maytag Atlantis Dryer not heating up

Best guess is that one of the two solenoid coils on the gas valve is faulty, one has two connections and the other has three. Always replace BOTH solenoids even if only one has failed.
