Hello, when i switch on the tv it comes on for a second or so and then just goes blank? Any idea what could be the problem? I've tried unplugging it and using the DVD player but it does not help?

I've finally found the solution to this - after several calls with Samsung.
Basically, the analog audio output is the same signal as the digital, optical output. Both of these signals are sent _ahead_ of the picture, to give a digital amp some time in which to do its audio processing.
Samsung's solution is that I need a digital amp with an 'AV sync' setting, so I can add a bit of delay to the sounds so it waits for the picture to be in sync.
What this means, is that this Samsung TV only works properly with digital amps having 'AV sync', and it cannot work with any analog amp.
Nice.

Since you have sound on the stations this is a problem in the display. Take bright flashlight and hold it against the screen. Look for an image around the edge of the flashlight. If you see an image then its one of three problems;
1) The inverter board is bad.
2) The CCFT (cold cathode fluoresent light) are bad.
3) The power supply to the inverter board is bad.
Someone knowledgeable in electronics can replace the bad part(s).

usually you can see the tops of one or more capacitors bulged up when the power supply board has failed. VERY common on Samsungs.

Howdy,
It sounds like you have a Power Supply Board problem. The PSB is the center Board (towards left) after you remove the back off the TV. Remove Board from TV with the 6-7 screws. Replace capacitors CM852 & CM853; 2200ufd 25volts.
Thanks for using FIXYA, big IRISH.
