Shark Euro Pro Iron turns of while ironing - Euro-Pro Shark GI490 Iron

Mine shuts off while I'm ironing too. I wish I could figure out how to fix this, it is very annoying. It comes on, after a little while the light turns orange, then it turns red, then it turns off.

For several months, I have been having trouble with your g1490 in that it

turns off while I am ironing. Sometimes it's when it is upright and some

times it turns off when it is lying flat. It must have a problem with the

sensor, but don't think its anything I can repair. After years of buying

cheap irons, I finally bought your iron which was quite costly. At first

I loved it, really enjoyed ironing, but now I have this problem and it's

VERY FRUSTRATING!!! Please advise. Mrs. Kravitz

I have purchased two of the G1490 model. The problem was that it turns off constantly during my ironing. I thought it was a malfunction with the first iron I brought; therefore, I purchased another, only to have the same problem. This is very disappointing seeing that when it is on, the ironing is wonderful. I have purchased many of your products that served their purpose, but this product is a dissapointment. Please respond as to why this iron is doing this!!!

I have the same problem with the iron cutting off constantly. We lost the book to it so we can't read how to solve the problem. Irons have been around a long time and have not been that difficult to use in the past. I'm disappointed in the iron considering the high ratings it has had.

I was having the exact same problem. It happened infrequently, then over time it got worse. I would jiggle the cable to get it to turn back on again, and that worked for about six months. Eventually the iron was unusable, I had to hold the cable in one spot and it would go on for about 30 seconds, then die out.
I decided to go on a little adventure inside the iron to see what the problem was. I was convinced the cable was frayed on the inside from rotating so much. After unscrewing the bottom, I found there was plenty of rust inside the iron, which had gotten all over the contact points from the AC cable from the wall connects to the heating element. If I moved the cable back and forth, I could hear it sparking and get a good connection.
It doesn't appear that the rust was from water leakage inside the iron, but rather steam produced while ironing. After cutting the wires and soldering the connection, the iron works fine again. It took about 1/2 hour to do from start to finish.
I would recommend getting a different brand, it only took mine a year from purchase date to fail.

It shuts itself off

The SHARK ELECTRONIC Iron is equipped with an electronic auto-off. The electronic auto-off switches the iron off if it has been left standing unmoved in any position (sideways, flat or upright) for approximately 7-9 minutes. A red light on the LED display panel will flash when the iron switches itself off. (Fig. 7) To switch the iron back on, just shake the iron side-to-side several times.

Iron quit working in less than 1 year.

Bought my Shark G1400Z iron about a year ago. The iron caught on fire. Luckly I was only out of the room for a few seconds. What can be done about this?
