I connected it to my PC. I had important files on it and I need to access it, however, it won't power up. There is absolutely no sign that its turning on. I need expert advise. Thanks a lot!!!
A few things to keep in mind when using external hard drives:
1) Never plug them into a USB hub. Your computer will not detect them and with the way the signals and power are routed into a hub you may get them to detect one moment and drop out the next. Use a USB port in the back of the computer.
2) If it searches for a driver you will have to reboot your computer once it's in and you won't lose any data on your drive. If you have the cd from the manufacturer, its a good idea to use it because in some cases they will have a spindown program that will run before the computer is shutdown or restarted. This will also prevent you from losing data as well.
3) Always use the right AC adapter when you plug it in. You will either not get enough power to run it or you will get too much power and damage it. Hopefully if it is the latter it will only be the power supply. If thats the case you can take the drive out, find another case for it and see if it works.
Hope that answers your questions.
Here is a link to simpletechs drivers and support section on their website. I didn't see that model listed but maybe if you snoop around in there you will find it:

I had a problem with my 320g Simpletech not showing up on my computer, I would plug the power supply in and connect the usb cable, the blue light would flash for a moment then nada. I found out I was using the wrong power adapter, you have to use the one that came with your simpletech, it is easy to mix adapters up if you have a few laying around.
I had the very same problem (computer didn't find the drive) and found the answer in the FAQ section of their website. They suggest plugging into TWO usb ports to get enough power and I'm happy to report that it worked fine for me.-
I had the same basic problem and stumbled on a fix that I don't know will necessarily work for everyone. My Simpletech 320 started making these damn clicking noises and next I knew couldn't be read on any computer. If the pcinspector.de solution doesn't work for you, what helped me was having my drive connected to my laptop with XP, leaving the drive on and connected during re-boot. In my case, this activated XP's scandisc because it detected a flaw or corruption, and it endeavored to fix it. Next I knew I was able to read the drive as if it had absolutely no problems ever, and I was able to transfer some very precious files I desperately feared were forever gone. I can't guarantee it'll work in every case and it may only temporarily fix the problem, but it's worth a try. Much love to everyone here whose advice was helpful to me and who is still struggling to get your treasured files off the drives.
There are numerous reports of people who seem to have a standard uninstall/reinstall issue, i.e a corrupted software driver, except so many are saying it worked fine initially and then sudenly no dice that it seems unlikely that it is a simple driver issue - either way there's no way to tell w/o being able to complete the install process. I'm reading that many like myself get hung up at the "insert installation disk" driver request; I cannot recall having an install disk, but if I did it's gone now, and given the number of posts I read there is a frequent need for at least a driver d/l at SimpleDrive's site. There are no drivers posted for the Pinafarina 320 [or any of the line] in either of the three site support index sections, nor in the legacy section. I will let this post know what the results are from my own support request, but I think if everyone with this issue follows the link below and then fills out the brief request form, they will be more likely /to post the solution to this issue and some sort of driver on their site tout suite. Then we can rule THAT out ... thanks ... jh

I have had the same problem, jongmar. It only happens with my HP Pavilioin dv6 laptop. The same hard drive connects right away to my desktop. I suspect power supply issues, but haven't been able to change the settings to get it to work. What works for me, crazy as it is is to (1) only connect while the laptop is on external power supply, (2) always use both the USB for the data and the one for power for the hard drive, and (3) restart the computer TWICE. I don't know if it takes a while for the HDD to "warm up" or if the restarting resets something, but this has always worked for me. Also, one of my USB outlets seemed to produce "low power", so I avoid using that one for either of the two connections.
Mine is a pretty old 160GB Simpletech external drive. It would try to start, then die off after a second or so. I solved the problem by jiggling the power pins and connecting the USB cable only AFTER the drive started.
Good luck!
I just plugged in my 320G simpledrive for the first time. i connected it to the power supply, and my mac, but nothing's happening. the drive isn't even registering on my computer. help please?
Is there an a/c adapter for the simpletech drive?
Probably all you HD's are dead meaning it needs to be replace, It can happened to brand NEW external HD and internals. Call simple tech for a refund or replacement.

Like everyone else, I just plugged in my simpledrive 320 GB HD and my computer nor my friend's computer will see it. The red LED light in the back is on however. However when i puit my hand on top of it, when its on, I can feel it like jerking very slightly as if its not spinning at full speed.
Noticed there was no power light on one day when I could not access it and has never came back to life. No power light , no blue lights, but there is power at plug. Drive stop at 7 months old
went to use the information on my drive, didn't work so i went to find the problem and hear a high pitch squeal from the ac adapter plugged into the outlet.
