Could be a number of things causing this.

Try cleaning the charge wire to do this open front cover and by the waste toner bottle their is a green tab grab this pull it out until it stops and push it back in. Do this several times.

The optics could be dirty I noticed it said prints up above Do you actually mean prints sent from computer or copies. If it is prints from the computer, it might be the developer unit. If copies than turn the unit off and take off the platen glass clean all the mirrors you can slowly move the lamp assy to the side to give yourself room to reach all the mirrors. It will slide back to the home position when the unit is turned back on. Use windex on a paper towel to clean the mirrors.

If you have any more questions just ask. I am a certified on this model and most others.
Hope this helps.

Pages are printing, but part of the page has really light, some unreadable printing while rest of page is fine. What do I need to do/change?

If the colors on printed and copied documents are too light, blurry or not as bright as expected follow the steps listed below:
1. Verify the toner save mode is turned Off. When you set the toner save feature to On, print appears lighter.
a. Press Menu, 1 (General Setup), 6 (Ecology), 1 (Toner Save).
b. Press the up or down arrow key to select OFF and then press OK.
c. Press Stop/Exit.
2. Print a document from your computer or print a demo page by pressingthe FAX and COPY keys at the same time.

When printing on my Canon Pixma MP500, there is a dark black line down the middle of the page. As the pages print, it gets lighter and lighter, but is very dark on the first one. Any thoughts?

Ink tends to overflow at the bottom guide rollers and the roller gets coverd in ink and causes the black line! The best will be to take it to a dealer and have it cleaned!Good Luck!

You should contact Dell about returning these for a replacement, it sounds to me like a manufacturer's error.

A white strip in the middle of a printed page

You should first try a new toner. Ther may be something stuck inside the toner cartridge. You might also try cleaning out the inside to be sure there isn't something blocking the light flow. If it still continues to happen there may be a problem with the fuser unit.

Left side of page lighter than the rest, you can't hardly read it

It sounds like the develop blade on your imaging unit needs to be cleaned. If you either clean it or buy a new one. If you are interested in cleaning it yourself I can send you a document on how to do this.

Left hand side prints faintly

inside the toner unit, there is a stirring device to broadcast toner over full width of drum. I will guess this is the culprit, the stirring device is not turning. Try this test: remove the toner cartridge and shake it rapidly back and forth. Then try a print, any change?
