Hi dchaz,

with the indulgence of bestdarngood...

Pls recheck how the "new hinge: was installed and/or if it matches exactly the old one As it may not have aligned properly, this mis alignment will cause the lid cover not to be seated properly and a sensor/switch sense this thus the error display.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

How to clear the "Check Original " error message? Description: This error can occur if the document being sent or copied is not inserted properly, fed incorrectly or is too long. Follow the troubleshooting steps and recommendations listed below:

  1. Remove any paper that is not jammed from the ADF.
  2. Open the top cover by lifting the lever on the right side of the top cover.
  3. Pull the original toward the front of your fax machine.
  4. Close the top cover. Press down on both sides of the top cover until it clicks.
faxing - jam06.gifBefore placing the document(s) in the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF), verify the error message "CHECK ORIGINAL" no longer is displayed on the LCD. If the error message continues to appear on the display, unplug the unit for 30 seconds and then plug it back in.

Check document error, no paper jam

It may be a bad hinge on the document feeder. I have seen several times where the left hinge ( when looking at machine from front) does not close all the way. Close the adf and look at the gap between the copier and the adf. The gap should be the same from the front to the back. If the gap is bigger at the rear ( when looking at the left side of the machine) then you need to replace the left hinge. You can also try pushing down on the document feeders' left side as it feeds the paper. if it works while pushing down, then it is the hinge.

There is nowhere I can find whether I should switch on the Machine 24hr a day x 7 days a week. Or shall I swtich it off after-office-hours? Any effect on the life-span of the machine?

In a business environment most fax machines are left on 24/7......who wants to miss an order coming in because your fax was OFF. However, many fax machines can be programmed to go into a "sleep mode"...this would be in the evening when the office is closed...you still want to be able to recieve fax's if any come in..but you don't need the machine ON "fully" ready to print. Another-words, the machine is in a sleep/half power mode( because no-one is in the office to use it )..BUT if a fax comes in then the machine can still recieve it, then it "wakes-up" fully..prints out the recieved pages, and then goes back to sleep again. The details on how to program this function will be in your operators manual IF the feature is available on your model.
The benifits of programming a machine this way are pretty obvious...savings on Hydro, extended machine life ( due to machine going to sleep.) and yet you still dont miss any calls.
Pretty good hey.!!

I place my paper that I want to fax in the fax machine, dial the number that I want to fax, push start, it scans the paper, I hear the fax tone and at the end I get a Beep Beep Beep and the report sending...

1) did you dial correctly?
2) are you in an office or in your own home?

a) if you are in an office, you may have to dial a 9 or someother number to dial out before you can type in your original fax number.

b) if you are in your home, then its a number of things: Fax machine not connected with phone lines properly is one big supect. Check your phone cables to make sure that the fax machine is properly connected.

HP Office Jet 6110 All in One faxing

This document covers the basic fax functions of the HP Officejet 6100 series. The HP Officejet 6100 series can perform the following functions:
  • Send and receive paper faxes.
  • Send and receive color faxes. Color faxes can be sent only to color fax capable machines. If a color fax is sent to a black-and-white only fax machine, the HP Officejet sends the fax in black and white.
See Figure 1 below to identify the buttons in the Fax area of the front panel. These settings, and some additional options, can be accessed through the front panel menu (see Figure 2). Figure 2: Changing fax settings from the front panel menu

  1. Load the original. Load originals directly on the glass or in ADF. For multi-page faxes, you must use the automatic document feeder (ADF). Loading original on the glass Place the original, print-side down, on the front-right corner of the glass. Loading original on the glass c00259779.gif Loading original in the ADF Place the original, print-side up, in the ADF. Adjust the paper-width guide to fit the original. 2. Enter the fax number using the keypad. Dial the number just as you would from a telephone (dialing 1 before an area code, etc.)
  3. Press Start Fax Black or Color.
  4. If there is no original in the ADF, the display will read, "Send from Glass? Press 1 for Yes or 2 for No"
    • Press 1 to scan the document from the glass.
    • Press 2 to load the document in the ADF. The display will read, Load original, then press Enter .
