My SyncMaster 204B 20.1" suddenly died. One moment it was working and the other it just turned off. It does not respond to power on/off. I opened it and looked at the board: the capacitors look intact, the fuse works as expected. Any ideas ?

Caps have completely flat tops, bad caps can also look normal but can have high ESR (Equivalent Series Resistance).<br /> What voltages are you getting at the secondary DC power supply side measure directly on those caps?<br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"> <a rel='nofollow' href="http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums">http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums</a></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'"><a rel='nofollow' href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague</a><span style="mso-tab-count: 1"> </span></span><br /> <span style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: 'Arial','sans-serif'">Capacitors kit: <span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span><a rel='nofollow' href="http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/">http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/</a><span style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </span>he can make you a set of caps for you.</span><br />

The main (bulk) capacitor seems ok. I believe the rest of the capacitors are in good shape.
I'm unsure what you mean by "secondary DC power supply" ?
There is no voltage on any pin in the connector that goes to the other board.

The secondary DC side is the DC output of the switching power supply after they are converted to low DC voltages (5vdc and 12vdc) to feed the logic board and the inverter circuits.
I cannot find any free sch download for your model yet. You can send me pictures of the boards, both sides of the board then I may be able to give you the votage test points, [email protected]

How long have you had the monitor. It sounds like a defective backlight. Usually when the circuit driver for the backlight starts to go bad, the monitor will blink. If this is the case, eventually the monitor will not turn on at all.

Samsung syncmaster 204b not turning on- My monitor's problem was when it switched off, the only way to make it work was switching off main power, and turning on again, then it would come back on flickering...

With certain Samsung models, not only do the capacitors go, but the MOSFETS will go as well, possibly a fuse. The MOSFETs are the big bulky black things with a silver tab and three legs. Should be between the capacitors and the transformers. Just pull those both out and test them (Google "test MOSFETS") One is probably bad but they must be replaced in pairs.

When my Syncmaster 204B (used as Monitor #2-1600x1200 60 hz) goes to sleep I can't get it back on. Power off/on, replug etc. every now and then it comes back. What's up?

Sounds like the powersupply is faulty. If it used to work for a moment then the picture dissapeared, and then if you turned it off and back on, the picture returned for a moment.

That would indicate a power supply issue, in that case it would definitely be a bad electrolyte capacitor or two. In your case I'm not sure but its either the power board or then there is something more complex wrong on the smaller mainboard inside the lcd back cover.

Can i get a copy of the power supply diagram for samsung 204B syncmaster ,i replaced the capacitors that were inflated in the power supply and in the inverter but the backlight not turn on. i want to know...

jose54tony, Schematics would only be available from Samsung. Rarely do they let them out of there tight grip!! You may need to look at the smps board and inverter board to find bad transistors that may have also died (muerto) when the electrolytic filter capacitors failed. 12fixlouie

My SyncMaster 204B Monitor just stopped working. It worked fine this morning before I left for work, but when I arrived home, it wouldn't power up. I've been Duel Screening for about 2 yrs with no problems...

Replace the screen with a known working one. If it shows display then it is the screen which is broken, if not, then it could be the port on which it is connected.

Unclear Display

Goto cotrol panel/display/settings and set the resolution to 640x480. Make your you are using the video driver from the manufactorer for your video card. Windows generic drivers do not work well for all monitors. When you get the proper video driver you can reset your resolution back to a higher setting.
