I have a Vizio VW37LHDTV10A LCD t.v. set that was built in august 2007. The power will come on and I can see the back light turn on. However, the screen stays black and there is no picture or sound. Then when I try to turn it of itt won't and stays on. I have to unplug it to turn it off. I turns on every time with the power buton but the the power button won't shut it off. None of the other buttons seem to work either as nothing is displayed on the screen. No menu, source, sound or anything except for what appears to be the back light turns on. Would this be caused by the main board?

you either have a faulty power supply or faulty main board. Vizio power supplies on the older sets are pretty decent. It's usually the main boards that go. These older main boards tend to be pricey so it may be better to buy a new set.

That sounds like a main board failure, I've had a few of those with Vizio sets. But get a proper diagnoses to be sure

it was an inverter board and screen back light issue. you must check loose connector like dry joint .

Larger sets such as the one you have, will have two inverters. They usually are attached to the backside of the LCD panel on the left and right sides. If you don't see them there, then your inverters are built into your power board. If your power boards are either one of these below, then that is the case. If your inverter circuit is at fault, you will have to replace the entire power board.

backlight inverter is different from lcd controller.

If you see the back light, then you should have 24vdc on the main power supply board which it gets the turn on command from the maun board. If you do have all those voltage, then it does sound like you need the new main board.

back light out,panel defective.no fuse will correct your problem.panel is bad.

there are several possibilities. first if the unit comes on and the "VIZIO" light turns white, but no picture or sound, then the main control board is most likely the issue. could be the LCD control board(s) depending on model one or two. and ultimately could be the power supply on the upper side....if the "VIZIO" light does NOT turn white, the whole power supply unit is out. after that, would have to scope the circuits to find out. Seems that the control board is the most common and tends to happen on many different sizes. new board will be around $350.00.
