The wiring is messed up the volume knob does not work right

Hi, I can help you with your question. On the face of the effects, towards the right side, there are three settings that can be adjusted: DRIVE, TONE and VOLUME. The VOLUME knob is your master volume. The expression pedal can adjust volume, but it's output volume is controlled by the master VOLUME knob we just identified. the switch, has three positions. Typically forward or up will be your neck (or rythm) pick ups, only and will work with one volume knob(usually top right as your looking at guitar), and one tone knob ( top left as your looking at the guitar). when the switch is in the far right or all the way down position, that will be the saddle (or lead) pick-ups. And that works with only one volume knob(bottom right as your looking at the guitar) and the corresponding tone knob. when the switch is in the middle position, botjh volume knobs work and both tone knobs work. You've gotta kinda play around with them to find whatever sound yopur looking for. and tone knobs are very subtle in their changes. good luck

To remove the knob, there should be a small hex key or allen screw on the side of the knob. Just loosen the screw. You don't have to remove it.

To tighten the nut properly, you may have to remove the back panel of the bass and hold the potentiometer from the other side. If allowed to turn too much, it could mess up the wiring.

your gonna prob have to replace knob but try and re sodder the connections. if that doesn't fix it then its your knob that needs to be replaced

my guess is two positions at one end work(aka 1 and 2, or 4 and 5)? if yes, then 2 of the pickups are wired wrong. (if 1 and 2 work, which are the forward positions, then the middle and bridge pickup are wired wrong, etc.) the problem is there is a variety of 5way switches that are different. i would guess yours is "import" style. are there 8 lugs in a single row on the back of the switch? if yes, you probably have an import switch. best i can do in text is tell you that the middle two lugs are common. this means one goes to the volume pot, and there is probably a little jumper between the two lugs as well. now there are 3 lugs on either side of those 2 common lugs. one set of 3 will probably run to the tone pot in some fashion or be empty. the other set of 3 lugs is for the pickup lead wires. it sounds like at least one or two of those lugs are empty but shouldnt be, or are wired wrong. i cant tell you colors of your wires without seeing it, but this is how it should be, with the exception that the tone knob will probably be on the bottom 3 lugs somewhere. 1 would be the neck pickup, 2 the middle, and 3 the bridge hope this helps, feel free to post a pic of your wiring, etc

It sounds like somehow the pre-gain is very high while the volume or post-gain is very low. Try turning the volume high on the effects unit and the gain low, and don't have the amp volume too low either.

You've got a loose wire! What's happening is that there's a bad potentiometer (the electrical component behind the knob) that's out of place and is only connecting fully at one point in the knobs circuit (the part where you get full volume) take it in to an amp tech at your local music store and they'll fix it up easily.

Maybe.....or thee is a screw or allen screw on the side of thr knob that hlds it to the shaft.

the problem i analyse is 1) the wires of the volume control (it has three wires wired to the input of the amplifier) wire 2 and 3 have got shortened.
2) the field effect transistor of the preamplifier has got shortened . the fet is in built in certain guitars.3) if its wire wound volume control then it has lost grounding , that is wire no 3 has lost its grounding (usually this is associated with a hum from the amplifier
