Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine Stuck on Sewing Straight Stitch Only

Have a Singer Touch Tronic 2001 Sewing Machine which has a touch board to pick stitches, decorative stitches, width, length, reverse. The board lights up and I can pick the stitches - but the machine will only straight stitch. No matter what stitch I pick - reverse, zigzag, decorative, wider width, wider length, etc. the machine will only stitch the straight stitch in the same length, width. Have you any suggestions. My feeling is the computer board has a problem.

Any help,advice is much appreciated.

Hi, I have a Janome machine. My stitch selector will only select one half of the machine stitches and it wont go to the other selections, You have to turn the knob to change the stitch settings but it will only select the left hand side. It won't go past the button hole selection. Wendy

    Thanks 17/07/2008

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.

I have the Singer Touch Tronic 2001. I bought it used for $50. It has the manual and all the parts. However, the manual refers to lifting the top console to access the stitch width selector dial and to change the pattern selector discs. I cannot seem to lift this console up even the manual says that it is hinged for easy access to these parts. Can anyone describe how to lift the console up? Or send a picture or video of this process?

Most appreciated!

the TT 2001 does not have a 'lid' - it is completely solid except for the drop-leaf for free-arm sewing. You must have a manual for a different machine that uses cogs.

Hello,
this machine recognizes the stitch plate with a mall switch.
When you have on of the straight stitch Plates ie: Straight Stitch or Chain Stitch Plate on the Machine it only works straight stitch.
That means your machine won't ever damage the needle because of using the wrong stitch plate.
When the small switch is defective or perhaps a cable connection isn't plugged this will cause the same.
So, check whether you use the right stitch plate - the one for universal use.
The stitch plate must have a little hole for the little pin which you can see in the rear left below the stitch plate.
If your stitch plate is wrong you can try the machine without thread and stitch plate.
When machine does her zigzag then, your stitchplate is wrong.
When she doesn't work - check the wiring from this switch.
(from below)

The 2001 was really expensive when new - be carefull and look for a good repair-shop.

Barbie,

I have had my Singer Touch Tronic machine for 27 yrs., but I am parting with it now. I've just purchased a new machine and am passing this old one to a friend for her daugher. I remember having the same problem you described. In my manual I noted trouble shooting, and here are some things you can try:
1) Check to make sure the "twin needle" isn't set "on". If it is, push it again to turn it off. If that doesn't solve your problem, then try this:
2) Take the throat plate off. There is a little nylon button under the throat plate in the upper left-hand corner. Pursh it down and the machine should "beep". This should re-set the machine so that all of your decorative stitches will work. You should clean this area out well as lint can cause this problem to occur.

Hope this helps!

BarbieJ, I also have a Singer 2001. It developed problems and the technician indicated that a the machine was worth al lot and 2. the if the machine's electronic touch board wasn't functioning it would cost up to $500.00 to replace. If you sew a lot and have the money I would look at a Singer 8763 or 74631. If my area they can be purchased for from $199.99 to $299.00 + tax. According to the salesperson I spoke with they have a 25 year warranty and appear to do just about everything the 2001 model does. I have also found 2001's on the Internet for as little as $150.00 including the cabinet.
Sorry this isn't a solution just information.
Regards,
GGreeler

Faye Langille. If any of you wishes to sell their Singer Touchtronic 2001 machine I'd be interested in purchasing it. Mine (bought new in 1978) just died of a computer board malfunction. I've since bought a Husquvarna Designer 2 and another Singer but don't like
    them as well.

My Singer touch tonic has suddenly stopped advancing the fabric It sees but the feed dogs Appel to be locked I have tried pushing the red reset button but didn't help

Which specific model Singer Touch Tronic do you have? The Touch Tronic 2001 has a special cover plate and foot for darning and embroidery that blocks the feed dogs. Could that be installed on your machine? Try changing the cover plate to the zig-zag or straight stitch one, depending on your stitch choice. The zig-zag cover plate is appropriate for most stitches. Four different cover plates are listed in the included accessories on page 3 (page 5 of the PDF) of the manual.

Most Singer manuals are available here: https://www.singer.com/support . The Touch Tronic 2001 manual link is currently https://res.cloudinary.com/singer-sewing/image/upload/fl_attachment/Singer-Website-Library/outdated_product/5a0f6c95685a2d9c7d9a495892142df0f3a2707a_1.pdf .

I hope this helps. Unfortunately, if the other cover plates are not with the machine's accessories, I've only found a source for the slide plate. None of the cover plates appear to be available.

My Singer Touch Tronic sewing machine top thread won't release to stitch?

Question edited for clarity and maker.
Question moved to Singer.

It is either the bobbin tension or a problem with the catch hook not catching, or bobbin carrier not seated properly. Or it needs servicing and timing checked.

"I have a Singer Touch Tronic 2010. Though not a 2001, this machine was purchased for me by DH for Christmas in 1983. It is now 28 years old and sews like it did when new. I have had this machine serviced three times in all those years and not because anything needed repair, just to have it properly cleaned/oiled. It probably has several million miles on it. Back then I made a new outfit for work every week. I knew it should have been serviced more than that as I used it constantly. At one time, it was my only machine for eight years and since I sewed constantly, I couldn't bear to be without it for any length of time. Now that I am older and wiser (LOL) and have five sewing/embroidery machines including this one, I'm more attentive to the machines getting serviced on a regular basis. This machine aside from having sentimental value since DH purchased it, is still my favorite for regular sewing. It makes a great single chain stitch by placing an attachment in the bobbin that my newer and much more expensive machines don't/can't do. It is now at our week-end home and I smile every time I sew on it.

I agree with the advice to go ahead and use it and see how it performs, but not to put too much money into any repairs if it should need them.

Bobbin stitch is loopy

4 is the "middle of the road" tension number, but it depends on the thickness of your fabric.
